I want to open a minecraft world to LAN and have another computer connect to it. However, it always gives me a name already taken error. Is there any way I can avoid this error without purchasing another copy of Minecraft?

Correction: You need to purchase another copy in order to join your own LAN server. There is no legal other way and grabbing a hacked client voids your copy, according to the Terms and Conditions of Minecraft, in a legal sense.

I don't think it's possible, legally, to connect to your LAN server without purchasing a copy of Minecraft.
