I have been playing Minecraft on a private server my friend runs for a few months now. So far I have had almost no problems with sever lag of this nature and when I do have lag it is usually right after he updates new cool stuff in our modpack. A few days ago I brought my laptop (ASUS U56E) over all set to nerd out, play minecraft, and drink too much Mountain Dew but minecraft refused to cooperate. The game will only run at about 1 to 3 fps and does not fluctuate outside of that band. Needless to say this is totally unplayable. My buddy tried in vain for about two hours to get it to work. Here are some things he has already attempted.
Uninstall minecraft and Java and re-install
Delete modpack and config folders and reload
Alocate more memory for use by minecraft
check Java for updated versions
There may have been a few other things he tried but I can't say I followed his every move. He was in computer magician mode and that makes my face go @.@
Any help would really be appreciated as I have a dragon to hatch and train. =D
Right. Well thank you for your invaluable opinion Straxes.
jcgminecraft, this is the only computer I have been using to play and this is the first time I have had significant problems. The laptop is also running games like Diablo 3 and WoW with no problems :/
Minecraft, due to it working through Java, is unlike any other game. Comparing it to normal games is mostly useless. Especially ultra low demanding games like the ones you mention.
For running heavily modded packs you need a very fast CPU and a semi-decent GPU to lighten the load. That Laptop has neither.
Plus enough RAM to not have the game choke on itself. 1GB ain't cutting it. 2GB is a reasonable minimum for anything above 60 mods.
Okay so what you are saying is that the number of mods on my buddy's server has exceeded the capacity of my laptop? Thanks very much for the assessment.
