Hi, everybody! I'm experiencing some odd "lag" on old versions of Minecraft, only. For newer versions, it runs completely fine, with, actually, very smooth frame rate on high options! Anyways, back to old versions. What happens, is it says that it plays at a higher FPS than is being displayed. It seems to be capping at a frame rate that looks to my eye about anywhere from 15-25, no matter what it is on. It was have a ever so often jitter where it will be a smooth frame rate for a tops of about 1-2 seconds, then go back. The game runs bad on no matter what option.
Any help? And is anyone else getting these problems? I would show off my specs, but I accidentally deleted a file that doesn't let me access the "About This Mac" panel. But, I remember what I entered when I bought it. It's just 8 gigabytes of RAM, 1.6 GHz Dual Core Intel i5 Processor, and I think that's all I can remember. I play the older versions more, and it's annoying to do so with a considerable amount of lag.
Thanks!
Hi, everybody! I'm experiencing some extremely odd "lag" on the older versions of Minecraft (MacBookAir 2015, Specs Listed Below), those being the only ones depicted on lag. It starts on Final 1.5.2, and goes all the way back to the first alpha version listed, or classic version, if you may. The lag is quite odd. The framerate is shown as steady. Usually very high. But the performance is highly jaggy, as if it was playing at like 20 FPS. Anyways, newer versions of Minecraft run really fine.
Note how the versions that lag are versions made during/before the Legacy Launcher. 1.6-1.6.2, 1.7-1.7.10, and 1.8-1.8.7 run fine. 1.5 and under just seem to have a dramatic drop, even though they "list" the same framerate. The versions run fine on my Windows 7 Desktop (Can't use that now, I'm never home and it's old and yucky), and the versions ran fine on other Macs during the Legacy period. It seems that maybe Yosemite/new launcher did some things? I'm not the only one with this issue. Most/All Mac Yosemite users all have the other problem, to my knowledge, and I'm not sure about Mavericks and under. If you have a solid steady answer, please hit me up, as I play these versions much more commonly/usually than the current updates. Thanks a ton!
Please don't write any "Don't use a Mac", or "It's because you have a Mac", or "Step 1: Close Mac, Step 2: Throw it on the ground" posts I always see. Okay! That's all.
Video (Game gets steady frames still while recording, but dropped a tad bit)
Also, has anyone else had/has that problem? Because, if not, maybe my computer just can't handle these older updates, and this can't be fixed. I dunno! My studying continues..
Just did a massive overhaul to the topic, added specifications, and easier to read. Now, people won't be afraid to give me an input because it looks more clean! XD

You could try downgrading your java to java 7/ upgrading to java 8, as that may be related. Also, it could just be that minecraft has been optimized for newer systems like yours in the newer versions, and the older versions may not be as happy with the onboard graphics card.

Thanks. Yeah, I have the most recent version of Java available. I'll go check and see what happens if I try out Java 7!
