So for some reason, my FPS dropped to around 40-80 yesterday for absolutely no reason and now it's stuck like that. The day before my FPS was just fine, at around 120-200+. I haven't changed any settings at all on my computer or minecraft, and I haven't installed anything in the past few days. I tried restarting my computer, running CCleaner and antivirus programs, as well as reinstalling Minecraft but all of them didn't work. So can someone please help me out here? Also, I have Optifine, and had it for a long time, and the FPS drop happens on all versions, servers and worlds.
40-80 is hardly noticable, as you would only notice any changes between 40-60. 80+ is irrelevant for most, unless you have a 120Hz or 144Hz monitor.
Computer specs would help.
It stays below 60FPS now most of the time, though. I just want it to never fall below 60, even if i use a 128x Resource pack (which I normally use, although even default pack lags now)
PC Specs are-
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M
12 GB DDR3 L Memory
1TB Hard Drive
Intel Core i7-4702MQ 2.2GHz
And yes this is a laptop. But i've only started having problems yesterday

I am almost surprised you can get to 200 fps with those specs, I have a nvidia geforce gtx 870m graphics card an i7 processor and 8 gigs of ram and I can get just over 200 fps (arround 210- 230 normally) so still I dont see why it is a big deal if you get 40 to 80 fps, it is still good and quite easily playable

Yes it is still a bit playable I guess, but I want to be able to have the same FPS I did before or at least make it never fall below 60FPS, as well as be able to use 128x Resource packs.

What is your performance like if you use no pack?

Tell me this, run the game and then right click on your task bar and go to task manager, once there find your disk usage and tell me what percent it is at

Windows 8 has a major disk usage problem, I had it at one point, my disk usage was always at 100 percent and I did not have any viruses, it rendered all games unplayable so disk usage is a great thing to check

Once the game is loaded into memory, the disk usage is irrelevant. That's why the same computer with a HDD or an SSD have the exact same performance. The only thing that differs would be application load times.

I seem to have figured out what was causing the FPS drop. Java 8 was the cause. I found this out when I decided to re-update Java since my system restore reverted it back to Java 7. Anyone know why Java 8 Lags me so hard?

I was talking about my performance if I used no packs in the first post. If i used the 128x resource pack it goes below 40FPS.
Might look into if something else is eating up system resources

Tried that, closed chrome, didn't help
Then you are basically out of luck. The game wouldn't just lose performance when nothing has changed, supposedly. So something had to have changed.
