For the love of everything that is good and holy... Here's the situation... soooo I'm trying to get Forge 1.8 (forge1.8-11.14.0.1299, using the installer) to play nice with 1.8.0 Optifine... (and if I ever get those to work together, I also need to tack on Liteloader). So there are 7 billion versions of Optifine I see, but no real clarifications on what the dumb letters mean at the end of the name. So I downloaded Optifine 1.8.0 HD U C7. I followed what every tutorial on the internet says of installing forge and then install Optifine, but it crashes every time.
So I'm really new to modding... but I've gotten other mods to work... just not stupid Optifine. Please help? Am I missing something obvious?
If I ever get this working, I will also need to add liteloader onto it too...but the liteloader 1.8 beta installer works like a dream so I don't think there will be many problems? Maybe?
Below is my crash report:

If you have any other mods installed, get rid of them. Some mods are compatible with forge, and with optifine, but not at the same time. It's weird.
If not, it seems the problem is in rendering. Go into the same version of mc, but without forge/optifine. Turn the render distance as low as possible. Go into your forge profile, and if it loads, turn render distance up as high as you want.

I originally did a clean install of Minecraft, then followed every tutorial under the sun to install Forge and Optifine only... with no other mods present.
I don't think it has to do with the render distance, as it was just set to 12 chunks... but either way, Minecraft loads fine without the forge profile. So I went in though as you said and turned down the render distance to 2 chunks (the lowest you can go). Normal Minecraft loads just dandy still. Again though, as soon as I load Forge with the Optifine I get the error below. Keep in mind that when I have gotten many other mods to work prior to this, but it just doesn't want to use Optifine for some reason... Is there maybe some config file or something? I heard that in older versions of Optifine and Forge that you originally had to actually change stuff in a jar file or in some config file?

Install them both, do not put the Optifine Installer in the "mods" folder.
After installing them both, go to the Minecraft directory .minecraft
Go to .minecraft/libraries/optifine/OptiFine/1.8_HD_U_D1/ and copy the "OptiFine-1.8_HD_U_D1.jar" to clipboard.
Paste it in the "mods" folder.
Open MC Launcher and edit the profile to "Use version: 1.8-Forge11.14.1.13.13"
Press play.
Unfortunately, this didn't work with the shaders mod in the mods folder, as it'd give me a crash. I'm not entirely sure if it will cope with other mods as well. But I do know it worked fine with the Hit Splat Damage Indicators mod.
Oh my gosh, Plasma. You're my hero. That totally works now. I also added on Liteloader 1.8 (Beta) to that and that works too. I added the following mods and they are playing happily together:
VoxelMap (Liteloader)
GammaBright (Liteloader)
Pop Enchant Tags (Liteloader)
Bow Infinity Fix
Auto Sapling
Optifine
Dynamic Lights
Convenient Recipes (1.8)
DynMap
Download optifne.jar from www.optifine.net/home, go to your downloads and find it, (make sure it is the latest update) make sure to tick everything in permissons and then right click open it with java and it will say do you want to install optifine? click yes! Reload minecraft finished enjoy!
I've been searching for help and this seems to be the thread that is closest to the issue I'm having...
So my game doesn't crash when I have FML/Optifine/Lite Loader installed, but for whatever reason, the grass textures don't want to load with the Conquest resource pack installed. When I first installed the resource pack, I had to get Optifine to make all of the textures work properly (getting FML to load with it was enough trouble), but now that I've also included Lite Loader, the grass textures went back to the good ol' black and purple squares.
Hopefully this makes sense, but here's how my profile is setup:
I downloaded FML and made the proper profile for my mods, then I downloaded Optifine and put that within my mods folder (like several tutorials said to do), and then using the Lite Loader installer, I chose the Forge profile I had previously made to include it in the new Lite Loader profile. So if I had to break it down as simply as possible, I have Optifine within Forge within Lite Loader.
Like I said, before including Lite Loader, the textures finally worked with just Optifine and Forge. I might be trying too hard just to get this one texture pack to work properly with everything, but it's a texture pack worth a hassle. Can anyone give me any help?
Yup, same problem with Optifine not loading in when dropped into the mods folder while running Forge..
GG.. just.. GG.. Think they'd make compatibility lists and put them in an obvious place..
(Running forge-1.8-11.14.3.1450 and tried OptiFine_1.8.0_HD_U_D3, then U_D1)
I just don't know any more.. xP
When I download Optifine, it is downloaded as a winrar file. When I try to open it with java, it doesnt open at all so i cant install it. Please help???
Install them both, do not put the Optifine Installer in the "mods" folder.
After installing them both, go to the Minecraft directory .minecraft
Go to .minecraft/libraries/optifine/OptiFine/1.8_HD_U_D1/ and copy the "OptiFine-1.8_HD_U_D1.jar" to clipboard.

Unfortunately, this didn't work with the shaders mod in the mods folder, as it'd give me a crash. I'm not entirely sure if it will cope with other mods as well. But I do know it worked fine with the Hit Splat Damage Indicators mod.
Still get this:
If I click on any of those, the text becomes white blocks - and if I blindly load the game, it just displays blackness.
Same thing if I skip forge, and try to let the installers work it out (Optifine, then Shaders). Same thing with a fresh install.
Dunno what do. If I remove OptiFine or the Shaders it's fine, but... Me wants both!
Console spams this like mad:
[13:05:02] [Client thread/ERROR]: ########## GL ERROR ##########<br>[13:05:02] [Client thread/ERROR]: @ Pre render<br>[13:05:02] [Client thread/ERROR]: 1281: Invalid value
I wish MC would work up a simpler mod system so we wouldn't have to update every damned mod and every damned mod loader with every damned update.
Yeah... Been playing off and on since 1.1 - so I know, I know... Just amazed it's still this way.
I did kinda find a solution though, for the posted problem at least:
Optifine 1.8 C7 + ShadersMod 1.8 - but you have to be very careful about not changing the antialiasing or anisotropic settings, apparently, or ya get the above mess, and have to reinstall to fix. ...and alas, will no work with Forge, which kinda makes the solution off topic, but was what I was after, I suppose.
Doesn't help, after C7, one or more of those options is on by default. Since you can't read the option screen with said on, yer kinda boned - lest ya can find a config file somewhere.

Is there a way to make this work with the shaders mod?
Came across this, perf and thanks
Thanks, Plasma. it worked like a charm with Liteloader.
Wow, It didn't crash...
...in fact, it didn't load Optifine at all!!
Don't place the Optifine .jar in the mods folder, or you'll get this
Making free Cartoon-style Avatars
Yup, same problem with Optifine not loading in when dropped into the mods folder while running Forge..
GG.. just.. GG.. Think they'd make compatibility lists and put them in an obvious place..
(Running forge-1.8-11.14.3.1450 and tried OptiFine_1.8.0_HD_U_D3, then U_D1)
I just don't know any more.. xP
When I download Optifine, it is downloaded as a winrar file. When I try to open it with java, it doesnt open at all so i cant install it. Please help???
Mind tellingme why it wont load optifine at all in the mods folder? Please help as i get low fps and I want the addons
Tried yonder, with both Optifine 1.8.0 HD U D1 and D5:
(Shaders 1.8 + Forge 1.8 + Optifine 1.8)
Still get this:
If I click on any of those, the text becomes white blocks - and if I blindly load the game, it just displays blackness.
Same thing if I skip forge, and try to let the installers work it out (Optifine, then Shaders). Same thing with a fresh install.
Dunno what do. If I remove OptiFine or the Shaders it's fine, but... Me wants both!
Console spams this like mad:
I wish MC would work up a simpler mod system so we wouldn't have to update every damned mod and every damned mod loader with every damned update.
MC is working on a simpler mod system that is coded into Vanilla Minecraft. But they have to change so much code it's taken years.
Before you even THINK about asking for crash help: Guide to fixing and avoiding crashes
Read installation instructions.

Doesn't help, after C7, one or more of those options is on by default. Since you can't read the option screen with said on, yer kinda boned - lest ya can find a config file somewhere.
