My screen freezes then it resumes as normal then it keeps on repeating that pattern on and on and it never stops. Someone please tell me how to fix this because i have a friends server that i want to go on that requires 1.8.
press F3 and on the second row it says your FPS (frames per second). If your fps drops to the single digits when your screen freezes it probably just means your computer cant handle minecraft without FPS lag. Otherwise i don't know.
Everytime your screen freezes you're experiencing a Lag Spike. To fix it go to video settings and put your Graphics to Fast, your Smooth Lighting to Off, Particles to Decreased, and your Render Distance to anything below 8. If turning down all your settings doesnt work then i dont know.
When you get fps like 85 and still lag spikes, it could be because your minecraft ran out of memory. Press F3 and at the right top corner, see the percentage of memory in use. If it suddenly goes to 90-100% most of the time it freezes, then Try increasing allocated RAM. This is the solution for you.
Goto edit profile and check "JVM arguments" and then inside the text box that becomes enabled, type this:
-Xmx1G -Xms500M
1G (1GB) is the maximum memory to use and 500M(500mb) is the minimum memory to use. These values are just examples. Check how much memory your minecraft is using right now and only increase 100mb-300mb than your currently allocated memory. But if it still isn't enough, You can adjust these to see which one fits. But keep in mind, don't allocate too much or you might experience fps decrease.
For vanilla 350mb-500mb should be enough but there are exceptions of course.
1.8 drove me insane with the stuttering you describe. 1.7.10 was a fallback but now all the servers are 1.8. Damn!
So
I purged all java, and wiped every trace of minecraft, before reinstalling just minecraft 1.8.4.
It started up with default settings and worked great! No more lurching. I changed some defaults and the dreaded constant freezing returned! Trial and error pinpointed my issue to FullScreen.
Options->Video Settings->Fullscreen must be ON(it is on by default), or the screen freezes momentarily whenever I pan or move. idk why, but there it is, for what it's worth...

Hope it helps
Check out my games pls.
If you modified Xmn in your Java parameters put it back to -Xmn128m where it belongs.
