Same problem here. My household has five paid minecraft accounts, five 1.7.4 servers constantly running, and we are all running the 1.74 client. Except for single player mode, minecraft is useless right now. I'm hoping for a fix very soon. I keep getting these sorts of errors and can't connect to anything, even local servers.
"io.netty.handler.timeout.ReadTimeoutException"
"Failed to login: The authentication are currently down for maintenance."
Its Christmas break, all the kids are home and want to play minecraft. Right not its far from MINEcraft. It seems more like THEIRScraft. Please someone, do something about it, or provide a course of action so the fun can resume. Thanx.
Now its working. Its very good news for me. I wish Minecraft didn't have that central point of failure that messes it up for a multitude when they bust something. (authentication servers and the like) Decentralized is better. Yes, it is possible and still restrict access to only licensed users in a peer-to-peer network. (works just fine with p2p cryptocurrencies like bitcoin)
The server's up, 47 people are online and I can't get on because of Io Netty.
Here are different theorems that have been known to solve this problem.
1. Direct Connect - Trust 3/10
In my opinion, this is the same as just joining the server once you've added it to your list. I find this not a working theory.
2. Restart your client - Trust 5/10
This is a bit of a gamble but always worth doing. This will not work every time but it often sometimes does for whatever Mojang is upto.
3. Re Add the server onto your list - Trust 0/10
Complete false theorem if you ever hear this.
4. Refresh the server list - Trust 7/10
Do this about two or three times then join on to your desired server. This often works if you've been away from the keyboard for a while.
5. Check your internet - Trust 6/10
Unless you know a little bit about modems and routers, don't play around with your internet or you'll probably make the situation worse. Check your modem and router to see if they're working, find out if you're connected to the internet and hack into another person's internet. The last one was a joke but you get what I mean.

I'm wanting to create a space map. I just need the right textures. Give me a good space texture pack without MCpatcher and i will do just fine. I will credit you just...just tell me the link or...yeah.
I'm having trouble with these same shenanigans. I dunno if this would give anyone a hint as to what the underlying issue is, but here's my two cents: I run a small server with a few friends, and frequently like to "update" the map every few times Minecraft gets a new update. Basically, I use MC edit to extract a couple of interesting projects into a new world, and throw that world up on the server. Where before I've never had trouble with doing this, 'twas not the same this time around: whenever I join the server and enter any of the larger imported areas, I get disconnected and can't login due to the io.netty problem. Like most of you have said, I can't log back in until the server has been restarted, and I am no longer in any of those imported areas. Outside of these areas, the game runs fine with no connection troubles whatsoever.
have i have this same problem.
it could be your antivirus software. may be the problem
i have kaspersky if any of you do then its the antivirus software that is making this error.
Everyone! I learned how to get it working! just follow this thread: https://www.google.c...Xf-gndffvLf85xA (it explains that the thing that is not working is the minecraft world is corrupt and it shows how to easily get it back)
Slushy, this link is for recovering local games. The problem here is online play. I am having the same problem with one of my users. No one else has this problem and he can log in fine on one machine. But his other machine just throws this error. I have rebooted the server, no joy. And again, he is the only one with only the one machine that is having this problem.
Being that in my case and a lot of other people's cases, usually before the io.netty crash people seem to be teleporting instead of walking/sprinting. I assume this is because the 2 way transfer process is taking a long time, because I play on a server that is run in the UK and I play in the US and I have this problem. Right before the crash, it shows everyone just freezing and chat doesn't work. If you try to open a chest or some other GUI related thing it doesn't happen. Sometimes after this it will just go back to normal, but most of the time it ends up just crashing. I blame it all on the 2 way transfer speed. I blame it all on that.
This isn't really a fix just a theory as to why it doesn't work. If I find a fix I will let you know.
What I think is happening is Minecraft authenticates players on their behalf by giving each legit account a unique ID or the 'id' part of the GameProfile(What is bolded below).
[15:00:45] [Server thread/INFO]: GameProfile{id='null', name='stevenmak'} (/99.167.206.37:60740) lost connection: Disconnected
When a player connects to a server the server checks to see if you have a legit 'id', if they do the player connects otherwise they are kicked. For some reason the server doesn't handle the player having a null 'id' correctly causing a network issue. This is more than likely a result of the 1.7.0 update, as Mojang did a complete multiplayer code overhaul.
So where would one obtain a non-null id value and how would they insert that into the client message to the server? Is that the profile name or the account email address?

Hey! I am getting this error message nearly every time I try to log on to a friend's server. I can see that there's usually people on when I get the error, so I think the server is working, I just can't sign on to it.

I have This Problem 2 i cant play any servers with any of my friends cause i just lose connection!!!!!! plz fix soon :'(
I am having the same problem. my members, staff and myself can get in the server but it seems its like clockwork every 30 - 40 minutes it boots everyone with that same error. I thought since I have multiverse dropping a couple worlds would help but it didnt. I also got rid of a few big plugins but that didnt work either. None of this happened until I upgraded to 1.7.2. Would have stayed at 1.6.4 like someone else here suggested but as a server just starting out that would be suicide. Noone wants to play with all the old stuff. They want the new and exciting items to build with. Someone juts needs to figure this glitch out and fix it.
