Just checked my server, seems that the system path is already at 64 bits version, I did it anyways just to be safe but when I type java -version in a cmd I get the 64 bits version of java showing, so it means its probably fine.
I'm not sure if I could get some benefits from running this server in java 8 instead of java 7, I have no clue where to download the files for java 8 either, if anyone can point them out for me, I need the 64 bits and 32 bits of them.
If its not too late I think I solved the issue on my server (1.8 vanilla) go into the server.properties file and lower the network-compression-threshold. I personally set it to 100 the default is 256. what it does is compress any data over the value set (the amount is in Bytes) it might use a little more cpu but it should do the trick. also looking it over in the wiki suggests not setting it below 64
I encountered this error as well on my personal 1.8 server running off my home machine. In my case, a dynmap render got stuck, lagging out the server and causing this error to show up for all clients. Cancelling the render and clearing the render queue solved the issue for me. Hopefully this can help someone else out.

Ok, i figured out the problem. Either the server or client is overloaded or there could be corrupted chunks, or its just your internet.
Answers 1: Use fewer mods or get a better pc. 2: Remove or ask an admin/owner to remove the chunks. 3: get a better internet
It does the same thing for me, but I'm on there for maybe 30 minutes, then it disconnects me with the error. The funny thing is, it disconnects my wifi, too, so I have to go fix it. Is this normal?
(P.S. It happens for every server I go on)
When I am playing MC and this error happens my son get kicked off his xbox at the same time. Curious...I have Verizon DSL....anyone else have the same?
Unfortunately I am having the same problem. I was going to play a modded server with my gf but, when I tried to load the server it has this error. I have tried most of the "solutions" but, nothing seems to help. Can someone help me with this? Oh, and I found this interesting. I loaded it in another version (1.6.2) and then it has the all famous "End of Stream" error. THIS SUCKS!
