I'm having the same problem since today and I've been using 1.3 (1.3.1) since pre-release. I have 8gb of RAM and ModLoader installed. Crash report below.
I start the game, play for about 20min and I'm disconnected from server and kicked back to main menu. So I try again and after a few seconds of "Downloading map", the crash happens.

Tliabo from what I think it looks like, your java heap may be running out of memory? I don't know how much system ram you have, but if you have plenty then try tell java to launch minecraft with more ram and see if that helps. See this video tutorial for more info:
If that doesn't help, you may try doing a clean install of minecraft also.

what does that mean?
Nothing, he's just bashing on the SMP/SSP merge.
I'm not sure what's throwing the exception, but I do notice you've only got 1 gig of RAM... you might just be short on memory.
I start the game, play for about 20min and I'm disconnected from server and kicked back to main menu. So I try again and after a few seconds of "Downloading map", the crash happens.

Have you tried updating Java recently?
32-bit and THEN 64-bit?
64-bit
If that doesn't help, you may try doing a clean install of minecraft also.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
