1.4.7 and the problem's still not fixed...Im thinking they probably arent going to fix this for a while though. :\ But yay! Im glad to know your going to keep updating it! =D
EDIT: The update list for 1.4.7 says that this issue has been fixed, but I went to test it, and it's still occurs for me...Im guessing that Mojang didnt actually fix it correctly, or they actually just fixed something else. :\
I've been getting ridiculous freezing recently, went to see if I could fix it. Found this, tried it, instantly made it perfect. It even fixed my bug where the pings would be ridiculously high (I would see pings in the 10,000's).
I'm going to post this to the MOJIRA bug report I made, hopefully they'll fix the problem in the code!
Thank you so much. I had this problem but I knew it was a client bug and I was really annoyed with it, I had no idea others had the same problem. One day it got so annoying because I run a server and if theirs a rulebreaker or suspected hacker and I get an email I can't come online quick enough sometimes. Besides that its just annoying to have to wait and start doing something else until the game connects.
This is a great, easy, and amazing fix and thank you once again for posting this <-- have some diamonds.
(and if you wish to join my server I will give you legit diamonds in game there too I'm not asking you to join, only if you wish good sir)
OMG this is such a great fix!!! thank you so much! i play hunger games a lot and its so annoying when my minecraft freezes (and sometimes crashes) and then i miss the game! ive bookmarked this page for every update! thanks again!
Thanks! I dont really understand how it works though. I did realise that the problem was with 1.3, the problem started when I updated.
As stated in the OP, the problem has to do with java files that do not exist (for one reason or another). Java has a internal timeout, and that's why it is taking so long.
Since Feed The Beast is just a collection of mods, it should. However, you may want to use a mod loading system so the two mods do not conflict with eachother.
I just bought a new Modem and internet package to fix my really bad internet only to find out this issue was happening now. Luckily I came across this and was saved! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this it really helped me out.
So I recently installed Nodus and reinstalled this class file and the same thing started happening again. Freezes and doesn't bring up the ping. (PS I use Nodus to test my server and keep track of my players, not to greif or cheat) Do you think you could fix this for Nodus please? I would be forever in your debt Thanks!!!!
Ok, so what happens if I have people that play my server but dont know how to input this into their .minecraft?
How should I go about this? is there a plugin to reduce the overloads?

You have to explain that to them. There's no other way of doing it because it's only client-side.

This is a completely other problem. The server you are trying to connect doesn't exist or the server IP is wrong.
