This is actually a really helpful way to preserve a world if you die. To all those saying "just play survival"... why the hell do you care? It's not you playing and not your preferences, so get over it. Another nice thing to point out, if you don't copy the level.dat/ level.dat_old it deletes all of your structures, basically starting the same world fresh (or at least it did in my case). This is good if you died in hardcore, but REALLY liked that particular world. I did this with mine because I spawned on a fairly large island in the middle of the ocean with 1 tree and a few farm animals. Made for an interesting survival.
This is probably the closest thing I can agree with but I still don't fully agree just press F3 and write down the seed if you really like the spawn/world otherwise everyone is right it defeats the purpose of playing it and you can die a ton and say you only died once. only thing I'm bummed out about is that there isn't a way to get the seed after you died. aka you planned on living longer and you pulled a noob move like I did and mined under you looking for mobspawner because you heard a lot of them and fall through the top of a ravine and die from fall damage.. I was sad I couldn't get the seed after I had died. but I wouldn't want to back up the world.
in fact I wish there was an ultra hardcore mode like health doesn't refill when full hunger bar. only when drinking health potions. and maybe just maybe gold apples but I like potions only Idea better.
Just so were clear I'm not trying to say how to play and I understand sibling issues but I myself wont use this method for any reason because I do feel its taking away the whole point of the hardcore mode option but all the same have fun. the only chance of me using this in the future is just to get the seed if I didn't get it from before I died so I could retry on the same map. Not with anything (Starting fresh/ALL NEW) but same map seed.
I really think that Minecraft should have a mode where you can save, but not play or edit a Hardcore world after you have died in it. I imagine I would probably dump most of my Hardcore worlds at the Game Over screen because they wouldn't progress far enough to bother, but if I had a pretty decent start on making, say Michaelangelo's David out of diamond blocks, I might want to save the world just to examine and show off my progress. IMHO, it defeats the spirit of Hardcore to recover the world in a way that it can be played.
In my opinion, being able to restore your hardcore worlds is great. There is people in here that say "Why not play in survival then?". Well, I play hardcore solely for the reason that it doesn't allow you to switch difficulties. In survival, I keep switching to peaceful when in danger, then back to hard. I feel like that's cheating. Also, sometimes I feel like I have been killed unfairly in hardcore, like today, I died because my mouse died while I was fighting.
I'm more with the "cool to know but I'd never use it but I won't face palm anyone who does" camp. UNTIL...
I'm heavy in the diamond age. Full diamond armor, full diamond weps and tools. I made fire walls in the nether fortress so Withers can't follow me through two open blocks. Life is good. So I load up on cooked food and build a bunch of boats and head out on the open sea to have a look at my continent.
I'm about rounding to go home (it seemed anyway) when all of the sudden my boat gets destroyed like it does when you hit something. No biggie, that's why I travel with fresh boats cued up. But for some reason, when my boat blew, I died. And I remember seeing this post so I performed the ritual and I'm back where all my possessions were scattered too deep dive down and get them. BUT I got my world back after a boat death glitch.
I know this is old as hell but I can't help but give props to you. I normally wouldn't do something like this BUT, I've been playing on my hardcore world for WEEKS and ONCE, just ONCE...instead of hitting ESC to pause my game, I brought up my inventory instead. When I came back, I was dead, my things scattered about. If my death had resulted from an action I had taken in-game, I'd scream and huff and puff and delete the world and be done with it, however in this instance I felt as though I deserved a second chance. Kudos to you.
I am using this to recover the hardcore world that I died in when my friends decided to mess around with my laptop at school, so I feel justified in my "cheating."
I don't understand why everyone is so upset, acting like "hardcore" isn't already broken. Open to lan --> cheats?yes --> gamemode1 --> Omg look at my epic hardcore. Relax people
To encounter zombies I assume you left your shelter yes? Generally a good idea to leave prepared ;). The zombies aren't all that. Don't go off adventuring with anything less than iron armor and 2 (hopefully iron) swords. If you encountered said zombies inside of your shelter, I would advise you to stop living inside of a mob farm. GL

Village defense necessitates it, including sometimes in the daytime. I think what's going on is that zombies spawn as far out as 99 blocks or whatever, then any zombie in range of any villager, or the player, homes in. It's not unusual to get 2-4 on every side of town at once; ain't nobody good enough to take on 16 zombies at a time on "hard" in all iron, ESPECIALLY ones that spawn more, sometimes behind you, when you hit them. If you try to wall off your city, they'll pile up until one bounces over the wall, starts converting villagers, and before you know it the whole village is turned. ...Someone called this update "Minecraft 1.6.1: World War Z edition" and I think it's a pretty good comparison.
I'll tell you what works pretty good, though - redstone/piston mob grinders at every entrance, so that they can't pile up.
I will admit I just used this, however the death was unjustified and honestly made no sense. As I was placing a lava bucket in a completely safe manner and safe place, it decided "haha nope we are going to dump ON TOP OF HIM." I was no where near any block that could have allowed me to drop it upon my poor undeserving face. Even my brother watching admitted that there was no way that could have happened. Assuming my death was my fault, yes I will be fair and kill it, but this was ridiculous

WHAT?!? Never! Survival isn't the same as hardcore... Oh wait, it is when you cheat on it.

And for those saying this is pointless, just shutup, no one gives a ****.

And for that, I thank you.
I like CyanogenMod 13 and coding for my phone.. Yep. That's all.
Diamonds to you for this
