This is actually a really helpful way to preserve a world if you die. To all those saying "just play survival"... why the hell do you care? It's not you playing and not your preferences, so get over it. Another nice thing to point out, if you don't copy the level.dat/ level.dat_old it deletes all of your structures, basically starting the same world fresh (or at least it did in my case). This is good if you died in hardcore, but REALLY liked that particular world. I did this with mine because I spawned on a fairly large island in the middle of the ocean with 1 tree and a few farm animals. Made for an interesting survival.
Thanks this really helped me. And for people who asked why would you do this? Well I wasn't playing when i died, it was my friend, who didn't know it was hardcore.
P.S. something else you could do everything up to the level.dat part and then instead copy the region from your old level into your new level. Has the same effect.
There would be no point in playing Hardcore Mode if you did this. The idea is that when you lose, you lose. This defeats the entire purpose of Hardcore.
There is no legit reason for using this. It is very clear that the world is deleted if you die and that is exactly what you should expect. Sure alot of people would like to "brag and show off" but frankly there is nothing stopping you from dieing 100x and doing this every time just to post the world up later on saying look what i did on my hardcore world...
You cant have your cake and eat it too! If you know its possible to save the world, you lose a huge part of what makes hardcore unique.
I used this today for what I like to think is a legit reason, I got home and my flatmates kid had been playing on my computer. He had been playing on my Hardcore game and died (thankfully he hadn't clicked delete world and just left it on that screen so I restored the world spawned in then changed it back to hardcore. Of course all my diamond gear is now destroyed in a lava pit lol.
Well there are some legitimate justifications for calling ******** on a death. Like when you save the world and load it back up later, and because of some game derp you end up glitched inside a wall.
So in that sense, good guide. Just don't use it unless it was actually not your fault. If you got creepered you probably weren't paying enough attention to what you were doing.
Dont know what happened but when i jumped to my deep pool as i always did , there was no water and i died, really dont know how that happened but i shouldnt have died, ill try this later , thanks a lot

Would you be able to make something similar except instead of saving worlds when you die in Hardcore it deletes them when you die in Survival?!
WHY YES! Here's 5 easy steps to it!
Step 1: Type [Win] + R
Step 2: Type %appdata% in the newly ascended window from Microsoft's magic.
Step 3: Navigate through .minecraft to the save folder in which the world you died in survival mode is located.
Step 4: Select the folder by any means
Step 5: Press the Delete key, folowed by selected the "Yes" option in the second magic box.

Thanks, I was playing Vechs Super Hostile #11 which is in Hardcore Mode and I didn't want to play in Hardcore Mode, but I didn't know how to switch it and I died eventually.
if you are saying this method is pointless, then just don't do it. Some people might want to restore a hardcore world after they die, and that is their choice.
I don't know anyone who has actually beaten hardcore before. So far I'm still trying to mine out some diamonds for armor and arrows and stuff to get to the end. Wouldn't it be a shame to loose it all on falling damage . Thanks for this method. I might use it!
But that's part of the fun of a hardcore world!! What I do when I play on hardcore, I'll go all the way to the end and kill the dragon, then set up the egg and surround it with TONNNSSS of TnT, stand on the egg, and set off the TnT :3

Yup, you should just play on survival.
