I figured out a rather simple method to saving your world after you die on hardcore, and will allow for you too switch to regular survival or creative if you need to. This is intended toward the preservation of a Hardcore mode world for bragging, or if you just want to keep playing, and not necessarily on hardcore mode anymore.
Here's how to do it:
1. After you die, do not hit the "Delete World" button, you need to just close Minecraft. If you do happen to accidentally hit the "Delete World" button you will not be able restore it with this method, I will explain a method on how to do that after.
2. Go to http://mc.42nex.us/ and get your seed of your hardcore world, you may want to write this down.
3. Start a new Hardcore/Survival/Creative world, the option you choose here will be the way your Hardcore world will be after restoration, and use the seed to your hardcore mode world, and create the world.
4. If your spawn point is not the same as your Hardcore mode world then you may want to change it with a program like lolEdit or MCEdit
5. After your spawn has been changed (if needed), then open up your saves folder (start>run>"%appdata%\.minecraft\saves") and locate your old Hardcore mode world and the world you just created.
6. Copy the "level.dat" and "level.dat_old" files from the new world to the old Hardcore mode world, you may want to back-up the files before overwriting them though.
7. Log in to Minecraft and open up your old Hardcore mode world and you should be back at spawn with nothing, just as if you died in Survival.
If you already hit the delete world button you may be able to find a Windows-made backup of it, right-click on your saves folder, hit properties, then go to Previous Versions and choose the newest version that was before you died, then click open. You should find your Hardcore world in there and copy it over to the saves folder. This will restore a previous version of your world, you may lose some stuff, but you should keep most of the major stuff, and as far as I know this only works with Windows.
There would be no point in playing Hardcore Mode if you did this. The idea is that when you lose, you lose. This defeats the entire purpose of Hardcore.
Scrubbing a save file kinda defeats the purpose of Hardcore doesn't it? Although, if I ever do manage to beat the dragon on Hardcore, this could be a good way to "trophy" the world.

Yea, some people might feel that they where "unjustly" killed, or had done a lot on the world and would like to continue playing on it but died.

Exactly, you could switch your world to creative after you died to "relive" your experiences and see the progress you made.
Thanks a lot. I have a hardcore world that I want to publish for a pass it on in which I died. I had a backup from about two hours before I died but this is a lot better.

So...you play on Hardcore just to say you play on hardcore? WTF?
I wouldn't say that this should be used for the idea to save yourself every-time you die, more to preserver your world after you die, if you want to brag about how much you did in hardcore mode.

Everytime i log on, i expect to see my warn status go up.
This is not really intended to save yourself after you die, its more so that if you do die and want to show-off your world (brag about how much you got done in hardcore mode) you have the ability to, and there are numerous people who may feel that they shouldn't have died, or a new player to the game didn't really understand hardcore and doesn't want to start from scratch again.
There is no legit reason for using this. It is very clear that the world is deleted if you die and that is exactly what you should expect. Sure alot of people would like to "brag and show off" but frankly there is nothing stopping you from dieing 100x and doing this every time just to post the world up later on saying look what i did on my hardcore world...
You cant have your cake and eat it too! If you know its possible to save the world, you lose a huge part of what makes hardcore unique.

I hope this helped.

Thanks for the replies.
One could even use this to make an adventure map in Creative and then switch to Survival for the players.
Yea.
NBTedit can change the world to hardcore mode?
Yea, if you want to put your world up for download or something.
No problem.

Would you be able to make something similar except instead of saving worlds when you die in Hardcore it deletes them when you die in Survival?!
If you're going to do this, just play survival
Just try your hardest not to die, if you die "Unjustly" then no worries, it's not hardcore

Except that the nether is reset.
Is there a fix for this aswell?
Need to fix the redstone in my profile picture..... CBF....
