Words cannot express my gratitude for this guide. I also use a netbook and my fps was downright pathetic, to the point I just couldn't play. By using one of your suggested texture packs [jolicraft] and using the .bat method I can now play just fine on my netbook.
I am experiencing something odd though. Everything seems fine at first, but then it randomly tells me that I'm not logged in/using an unverified copy of minecraft [basically, the message displayed if you play it with no internet connection]. My username and password on the .bat file are correct.
Ah. Well what appears if you are connected to the internet?
I am connected to the internet when the message appears. The strangest part is that it shows up about ten to fifteen minutes into the game. I can still play, but I have that text on the upper right corner.
I ran it again without the .bat file [using the official launcher], played around for about thirty minutes seeing if the message would appear again. It never did.
Tried again with the .bat file, played for about 20 minutes before that message popped up.
This is truly strange. lol Not sure what to make of it.
I have no idea the .bat method is so strange. No 2 computers experience it the same XD. Well I guess if you can live with it being there you should still use the bat file

I'm just happy it runs on my netbook now, I'll deal with the message XP
Thanks again for the guide! :biggrin.gif:
About one part of the guide:
30FPS is not smooth but is playable (if you ever played a FPS, irony). 60FPS is smooth and most human eyes see up to 100FPS.
Actually it's all a matter of opinion. The human eye doesnt see in terms in frames, its a continuous input of light. And for every person it's different. 30 FPS is smooth for me, I don't need more than that. 60 fps is probably the max anyone needs. I'll change it though.

30FPS is smooth. Youtube only plays there videos at 30FPS.
Excellent post! We need more ways to optimize every aspect of our lives, not just minecraft :biggrin.gif: Also, for anyone who hasn't yet installed Opti-Fine(opti-fog & mine) please do so, you'll be able to have control over much more in your minecraft video options menu. :biggrin.gif: Happy mining and keep optimizing :biggrin.gif:
I would also add not browsing minecraftforum.net whilst playing! (or at least scrolling down so the top is not visible)
The animated clouds visible in most modern browsers can use huge amounts of CPU, 25% of my 3.6Ghz CPU, one poster reports it uses 100% of his CPU!
There are a few threads on this, one here: Kind of a Website Secret! look above :tongue.gif:
Hopefully the site admins will remove this feature.
*Scrolls up* What are you talking a- HOLY F**KING S**T THEY MOVE! But this should be removed. No wonder my computer acts a tad slower when on this site.
OOOOOOOOOOO MMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GGGGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because of you i now run at a regular fps of 127!!!!!!!!!!!
Great guide. However, Java 7 is more stable than it seems - the only crash I ever get out of it was related to an applet not recognizing Java 7 as Java :tongue.gif:
Also, my results:
Normal: 70fps with LSOD and chunk load spikes
Normal + OptiFine: 90fps, no LSOD, occasional spike
Guide: 80fps, LSOD, but no chunk load spikes
Guide + Optifine: 130fps, steady, performance spikes nearing 170
HOLY. CRUD.
I am now outperforming my friend's GAMING PC on a year-old desktop built from spare (read: terrible and occasionally half-broken) parts! Thanks for giving me a few extra bragging rights!

Youre welcome :biggrin.gif: . Java 7 really depends on the computer, so i'll keep it in the possibility section.
when i ran the custom launcher as admin i got: Could not find main class: net.minecraft.launcher.Minecraft.
When I ran regularly It opened but blackscreened and I get this:

That is so odd. Hmmm can you play multiplayer?
I haven't tried. I don't really play multiplayer so I don't know any servers to test it on.

30FPS is smooth. Youtube only plays there videos at 30FPS.
YouTube actually plays their Videos at 29.97 Frames Per Second. Anything lower than that wouldn't be smooth enough to be watched.
If you upload videos that are recorded under 29.97 FPS, YouTube will convert it to be played at 29.97 FPS by duplicating Frames every 4-5 Frames.
That's all I know about. If anyone could suggest any other simple texture packs that would help a lot

Thanks, added. Would change the version but to lazy, sue me! Lol.
@thisisnotyouraccount Thanks :biggrin.gif:

Haha your welcome. Be careful when you write stuff like that, spamming anything will get you warned by a moderator, I learned that the hard way >.<
