I have the same issue in 1.5.1, and none of the suggestions about turning off smooth lighting or limiting frame rate work. I log in to any SMP server, including my OWN, and i fall endlessly. Every now and then i will land on a tiny generated chunk, which i can not destroy any blocks (they reappear right after destroying). I have never got to play SMP before, ever since survival multiplayer came out I've had this issue.
That could be your own ISP's fault. We're talking about 1.3+ (well at least for most people)
I have had it ever since 1.2, every update doesn't fix it, and every server not just my own. My laptop, which is much worse quality, less ram, worse processor, can run and connect to servers. But not my desktop. I have no idea why.

I have been testing out the mod and the mod has a problem with breeding. First I tested the breeding and it worked. Now i breed my dogs with their cloths on and it crashes.
I found that moving away from the lag work well. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I've mentioned it a few times, but I think it's been pushed under the carpet.

Not for the machine we've been working with. Happens outside, inside, around a corner. Doesn't matter.
I'm still trying to find out if anyone has the problem on a duel core or higher processor? so far 3 people have said its only happened to them on single core processors(see my post bottom of previous page)

How would you "move away from the lag"?
If it's a bug that only effects certain areas you might be able to move away.
I have reason to believe it's based off of corrupt chunks, or parts of the map.
I was able to get away from it, so maybe others will too. You just can't go back to the 'infected' area.

Mine isn't like that at all, in fact you can't even move, because every five or ten seconds, you return to the original spot, and continue to fall in limbo.

Both machines that I try running the server on are dual-core. One is running vista 32bit and the machine I use is Win7 64bit, same issues.
The ONLY fix I found for it is by using the simpleserver wrapper....but why would this make it work? I would like to just run bukkit, not have to run bukkit through simpleserver :sad.gif:
NOTE: by using simpleserver, it allows for the world to spawn and you can do things, but it still lags very badly. without simpleserver, I get the "falling" glitch every time.

What type of machine are you using to connect to the servers? What type of machine is the client running on?
So the problem is only for minecraft? I had a similar problem that was with everything on my computer. all games, everything. Every minute or so i would get 15-20 seconds of massive lag and my fps would drop a ton. My problem was that the website i ordered my motherboard and processor from dint include the fact that they were incompatible. Might want to check that out. I guess its a possibility.
Oh and one more thing, just wondering if anyone had the problem on one operating system & either reinstalled the OS or used a different OS on the same hardware and then had no problem?
I had the problem in win 7 and switched to ubuntu 10.10. That fixed everything.

Thats interesting, did you change any hardware or anything before you switched to ubuntu?

Nope, didn't change a thing. I didn't even have to get rid of windows, just duel booted it.
Awesome. I'm having Sarkli try that as soon as he can. To confirm that this could be the solution. Thanks for the info.
Out of curiosity what are the specs for your computer?
Aspire 5517
AMD Athlon Processor TF-20
1600.000 MHz
512 KB
Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
2 gigs of ram
So that's about all I could find on this thing. I'll tell ya this though, I paid 300 bucks for this laptop about 2 years ago and I got it at walmart. It's a piece of **** but minecraft runs great on it when it's in linux.

Thats really interesting, I'll have to let everyone know what happens once we try running it in linux. We might be on to something here. I guess then we would know its a windows problem (and really, when is it not) I'm betting if this works were probably looking at a windows driver issue.

I'm running this game on:
AMD duel core 1.8 Ghz
4 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce GT 220
Windows 7 64-bit
I Got 30 mbit/s high speed internet, so that wouldn't be the problem
It need to be fixed now

Edit: Forgot to add; I've been playing with no problems at all for quite some time. And all of a sudden this crap started when I got home from work.
