I to am experiencing this problem. I am building a desktop so i don't kill my net-book, which MC run flawlessly on. The net-book is an ASUS eee pc, windows 7, 1.6 duel core intel atom with an NVIDIA ion graphics chip-set 256 meg and 2 gig of ram. I can run MC, and Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas just fine. Now my desktop is an older machine by a bit. 1.8 gig AMD sempron 3200 processor, with an ATI Radeon HD 4800 Graphics card 512 meg, 2 gig of ram running on windows xp Service pack 3 with all the updates, i just did every single update microsoft put out up to today. Latest Java on both machines. MC on my desktop runs single player only and the lines between blocks are bright and very noticeable. Also im getting a box like line around my torches and items in my hand when in first person view. If i connect to the MP server i get the falling, with the single chunk loaded around me after about 2 min of waiting, and i can walk over the edges of this chunk. This may be a code related issue, but i think it also has to do with the graphics processor itself. Why is my NVIDIA chipset running ok but my ATI chipset running like crap. MC runs on my work computers as well and they are all NVIDIA chipset. What chipsets are everyone using, might help shed some light into the issue.
Not sure if this is the right section, but a lot of topics concerning lag have been here, so this topic will try to adress all of them. Please Note: I have tested all of these on a laptop, and on servers that haven't lagged before the Beta 1.3 update. Don't even come in here and say: "it's server or client side." It's not. I also was using fast graphics, and normal render distance, getting 20 fps, so it's not the computer. Like I said, all of the servers and my computer was fine before Beta 1.3.
Facts:
1. This lag problem is for all servers, but may only affect some people.
2. This lag problem ISN'T caused by the server or the client.
3. It seems to be computer, not user, specific.
4. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
This is all I got so far.
Symptoms:
1. One minute or more of chat lag.
2. Everyone else is still, or people move choppily.
3. The whole world doesn't generate, and you can fall of the sides.
4. Other people aren't complaining about it on the server.
5. Can't place or destroy blocks within a minute.
6. You take damage about one minute after you preform said damage-taking action.
7. One minute or more of object lag. (workbench using, chest opening etc.)
8. It takes a long time to download the world from the server.
Most of the time, it's the chat lag combined with the world generation glitch.
Solutions:
None so far :tongue.gif:
It's game-code related. No way to change that, though. Other than next update.
Post any info you may have about this problem, or any solutions! You may also post "I have this problem too" to show how many people it's affecting! Helpful Quotes:

I believe I found the problem lies in new chunk loading functions - the game works fast as long as you start it. But as long as you move (and that move triggers chunk loading, possibly triggers more than 1 chunk) the whole game slows to 1-2 FPS! Does not help quitting the world, the only way it to quit the game and start it again, which will not help for long!
After slowdown occurs it uses max CPU while memory or hard drive write/reads are unaffected (checked statistics with Process Explorer) therefore I assume one of things (related) occur, recursive function or infinite loop

Me too, except I play in SMP, and instead of fps lag, real lag lag. I cannot even move, teleport, mine, open chests or nothing and within a minute of nothing happening a crash.
My settings are:
Music - 0% Sound - 31%
Graphics - Fast
Render Distance - Short
Limit FPS - On
View Bobbing - Off
Smooth Lighting - Off
It's not the FPS I'm worried about because I live with it. But the lag is causing me to not play Minecraft because I only play SMP. And I never lagged before 1.3.

I have also had this problem since 1.3, my friends both have it as well. It doesn't matter who is hosting, everyone besides the host will get bad lag and desync (seeing things happen about 30 seconds to 2 minutes after they actually happen). We are all connected via Skype while playing and have no lag or latency in our conversation, but in-game our actions happen about a minute after we actually do them. We all played together for many hours without any problems before 1.3 was released.
Does anyone know if Notch is aware of this problem? It seems to be at least moderately widespread from what I have seen on these forums.
Yea this happens to me too, the fix i found is to simply recconect it takes like 3 seconds lol

My laptop just uses what it came with, but my desktop has a graphics card...not sure what one.
I've had this problem so much that i don't even bother trying to play smp anymore. I don't even know what smp is like because i've always had this problem with MC, as i bought it just after 1.3 came out.
We are having this problem on our desktop. My laptop is fine.
-After breaking a block it reappers within 10-15 seconds.
-Picking up blocks is delayed.
-using things like crafting tables, chests, furnaces, etc. is delayed too.
-The FPS is fine, its just this "mysterious lag".
One solution that helps with work a little better is to put Limit-framerate ON, but it can still happen at times, but defiantly lessons the amount of voids and lag. Hope it gets fixed the next update :Notch:!
i have a server, and with the 1.3 update it caused extreme lag, even over my local network. and it likes disconnecting other people, but it doesnt affect me?
the host computer could play and host the server fine though.
Did anyone verify my findings? Namely that moving to another area resolves the delay temporarily. Also that there is redstone torches in the area where the delay occurs. Furthermore that the redstone torches are bugged and that fixing it resolves the problem.
As for me, the problem hasn't come back after we fixed the redstone torches.
("lag" isn't descriptive; please be more specific when describing your problem; mine was not FPS or networking related)
I've probably posted this topic many many times. On some servers, my connection is fine. No lag, nothing. On other servers I log in normally and when I get to the actual world a couple chunks (about 5-30) load without a problem. Then it stops and loads the rest of the chunks slowly. My messages take up to 5 minutes to appear. I do not think this is an internet problem because as said before, some servers load quickly. Nobody else is affected but me.
Regardless if I make my video settings all on low, making my fps like 70, it won't change anything.
After a couple of minutes of sitting there, I am kicked off the server with the message:
internal exception:java.io.IOEXCEPTION: mark/reset not supported
P.S. I am on a 10.5.8 Leopard.
This is from my thread, just post it up on the OP I guess. Would be very much appreciated.
I've been having lag problems when playing on a multiplayers server hosted on either my friend's or my computer. We've tried several servers and tried many things to fix it, but there's still this lag. What's happening is that although the game is running well and smoothly in terms of FPS, actions such as destroying blocks and opening boxes go agonizingly slow. Both our computers usually run well on online games and always run Minecraft perfectly on singleplayer maps, but we'd really like to fix this problem to play on multiplayer. The most annoying part of this lag is that every time we destroy blocks, they reappear a few seconds later and just stay there... they don't go away no matter how many times they are mined. Also, our mining picks still receive normal durability damage every time we destroy the block, even though the blocks come right back, so we're needlessly wasting mining picks (At least, I'm fairly sure they're receiving durability damage). We can't get anything done like this.
This seems to be a very common problem. Are there any plans to fix this? Is it possible to fix it on the current patch, or will we have to wait for the next one?
I haven't heard anything about Notch releasing a patch for this. Personally I have all the above problems except void falling in single player, in SMP I have awful lag as well.
Oh man this should be stickied! I've experienced these symptoms ever since the recent update. SMP is so hard to play because this lag makes it unbearable. And turning on monsters seems to make it worse! I wish there would be a fix for this =/does anyone else agree that Notch should trash SP and make the game primarily MP? I feel that the game can only be made better when played in multiplayer....there's simply no point to SP.
For running my SMP server, I found that if I turned monsters/animals off, restarted the server, then turned them back on and once again restarted the server... it would not lag, at least for now.
I don't know how long this will work, but I'll check in when it stops, if it stops.

Not only for me, but for a couple people on the server I host.
I reinstalled minecraft completely, and the server software, yet still no luck.
