How do you turn off mob spawning in singleplayer?

I am doing stuff on a singleplayer world, and there is one thing that is annoying me, the bats! I am playing on 1.6.2 and the bats are really annoying me. They still spawn on peaceful, so i am wondering what is the relevant command in vanilla minecraft to turn off mob spawning.
