Here is a list of currently known bugs and problems:
1. Mac OSX 10.5:
Minecraft 1.6 currently does not work because of issues in LWJGL (library that Minecraft uses) that is out of Mojang's hands. This will be fixed when the makers of LWJGL fixes this bug and releases a new version.
Since Minecraft 1.6, Minecraft no longer supports Java 5 and PowerPC Macs.
2. Mac OSX 10.6:
You'll need to update to 10.6.8 and download Java Update 16.
If you are getting UnsatisfiedLinkError on liblwjgl.jnilib "Reason: image not found", firstly try installing all available updates in Apple Updates. If it does not work, you're currently out of luck. This is a known issue with no fix at the moment. Official bug report here. If you have more information, make sure you provide your full developmental console output and your system information!
3. Windows:
If you are getting exit code 1 and you find something that looks like this, you need to upgrade your graphics drivers.
If you are getting exit code 225, you need to reinstall Minecraft. Head to your .minecraft and delete everything except the saves folder.
If you are getting exit code 255, it means you are in Fullscreen mode and your graphics drivers are not updated to the latest version. Update your graphics drivers.
4. Modding
Modding may be a little bit confusing in the new launcher, since there is no bin folder anymore - the new launcher supports multiple versions of Minecraft. Either read this topic about it or check out to get modding working. Note that this is a unmodified client forum - for modded client help, head over to the Modded Client Support section for help.
5. Texture Packs are now Resource Packs.
You cannot use a texture pack as a resource pack (and obviously not the opposite). To convert a texture pack into a resource pack, Dinnerbone has made a handy tool here.
6. Cannot play online
If you can't play online and see this error in your development console output
Log out and log back in, it will fix itself. This is a known issue. Official bug report here.
7. Java not responding/crashing in fullscreen
If your launcher crashes (Windows tells you Java is not responding, Mac giving you a crash) and it used to work in 1.5.2, uncheck the Fullscreen option in Edit Profile, then manually enable Fullscreen by pressing F11 in Minecraft. To really fix this issue, try upgrading your graphics drivers.
8. Cannot Control + Click on Macs
If you are on a Mac and Control + Click no longer works, don't fret - This is a known bug and will be fixed in 1.6.2. Original issue here.
9. Performance Issues
If you're getting dramatic performance drops and are using a computer with both Intel and Nvidia/AMD GPUs, you need to update your drivers for both GPU, then make sure the Nvidia/AMD GPU is always used in either the Control Panel, or the BIOS., Also, allocating more RAM may fix this issue. Hit "Edit Profile" in the launcher, and in the JVM Arguments option, type in the following: -Xms2G -Xmx2G. Also, if you
When I try to change the JVM is cancels it and it says it could not reserve enough space for the object heap.
Please help, I can't play on my fav server anymore because it's too laggy.
And the most common problem is clearly the severe lag issue, but nothing is working to correct this. Allocating more RAM certainly doesn't fix the issue. It's clearly a problem with the new launcher.
However some other players seem to not experience this issue?
im having an issue occuring when i am in game or at the main menu of the game cutting in and out of not responding even though i have an up to date java and graphics card..so it is oddly confusing to me and frustrating... I have even reinstalled minecraft 3 times and still no fix..So if u could plz help it would be much appreciatted

You're not giving enough information. Open a new thread and insert your dev console output and your DxDiag report.
On 1.5.2 it will work fine but I will crash on 1.6 after a few seconds. The error code I got is 255. I just updated Java, but after the crash I also get a Window saying "Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working"
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft about 4 times already but it still doesn't work.
Help!!!
I hope this is the right area to post this in, but after purchasing minecraft 1.6.2 I find everything look larger and less detailed than my previous 1.5. Its like the screen resolution is set low. When I change it in the launcher it does nothing. Can someone point me in the right direction please? Any other info you need from me just let me know.
Most of us having the performance/fps issues in regards to the new console, have already made our own threads for it, including myself. There's nothing in the development console output that relates to the issue either, as its not a problem that causes a crash or any error of sorts that would produce any output code/information.
The only thing we do know about it, is that it's caused by the way the new launcher doesn't run Minecraft on the same javaw.exe process, and that the Minecraft.jar itself is no longer directly ran through the console process, due to the different versions and having those kept separate. This also causes some issue involving integrated graphics cards like Intel, which is causing the lag/fps issues people are having. I think that's roughly what the problem is anyway, or to sum it up without going into detail too much haha!.
EDIT: Should have mentioned that my 'summed up' version above, is basically summing up what has been said by the user called 'vogonpoetry' in regards to the whole Intel integrated graphics cards/drivers being the problem with the new launcher itself.
The only thing I'm looking for in the dev console output is your Java version, Java arch and any abnormalities.
The Intel integrated GPU is not meant for gaming, so unless you're talking about the discrete GPU issue (which has been here for as long as computers with both Intel GPUs and discrete display card exists), I'm not sure why Minecraft specifically is causing the problem.
Also, I'm not sure I follow - how is two java instances (the new way) worse than one (the old way)?
When I played Minecraft in 1.5.2 everything was good but now since 1.6 was been released everytime I download the new launcher for 1.6, my minecraft still reverts to 1.5.2. I tried changing my settings and setting the launcher to use the 1.6 release and that works until i close down minecraft and then everytime i try to open it again it reverts to 1.5.2 what can I do to fix this?
Delete everything in .minecraft except the saves folder and start again.
When I enter in my game the english is all jumbled and unreadable, other languages are clear, such as pirate, but both english ,Uk and American, are broken
I don't know what the discrete issue with Intel GPU's is anyway? I've only had my new laptop since Christmas 2012 and then bought Minecraft on it a week or so later, so I'm unaware of any previous issues that have been around for as long as the display cards/GPU itself have been around haha!
The possible solutions I can remember are: 1. Better drivers for both GPUs, 2. Force the computer to always use the discrete GPU in BIOS, or the Control Center of the GPUs (usually the better one).
I never said that having two Java instances was worse now than it was before with just one, but it does seem worse for everyone (myself included) having this issue. From what I've read, it's caused by the Intel graphics/GPU not recognising the second java process launched as being a game, and thus causing the frame rate issues. Where as having both the launcher and Minecraft itself all in one javaw.exe process, works perfectly fine for everyone still when downgrading to 1.5.2 through the old launcher.
See if 1 fixes the issue. If not, you'll have to petition Intel to make better drivers, or on Macs, use something like this.
The Performance kind of helped I guess, but I'm not sure what's wrong with the new launcher because all my graphics cards are up to date, my java is updated, I have 16gb of ram and an i7 processor. So it's most likely Mojang's fault causing the lag.
Quite often I find that after about 20-30 minutes of play that my entire computer freezes up completely, the only time I can get it to run longer is on peaceful mode. I have a good video card and up to date drivers as well as 6Gb of RAM. Is this a common problem?
Please fix the error and restart.
This what it says when I try to run 1.6. I can download everything perfectly but can't run it. I also use MultiMC but I don't think that should be a problem. Please help.
Anybody else having my problem? I downloaded the new minecraft launcher the first day it was availible for 1.6, and I went to play again today and my game is back to 1.5.2. I have tried redownloading the launcher and that didnt seem to work. Any help please? Oh, I'm on a windows computer if that helps.

Most people will not be able to do this as 32-bit java is limited to ~1200MB ram allocation. If they are on a 64 bit system then they should by all means install it though. Allocating more ram is not attacking the root of the problem however, which is a bug in the launcher/Intel drivers.
