My computer handles Minecraft pretty well, but it seems that when I set View Distance to Far, the chunks take a very long time to load. In fact, the first chunks around the player - say, the ones that would be loaded with View Distance = Normal - load fine, but if you travel in a straight line you quickly come to the limit of the loaded chunks, and you can see the remaining ones loading very, very slowly.
There's not much disk activity when the chunks are loading, which makes me conclude that the problem isn't the HDD reading speed. Plus, the chunks load quickly in Normal view distance.
I'm running Minecraft 1.6.1 with the latest x64 Java.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any idea about how to fix it?
Thank you.
