Alright, so i've seem you on SO many forum topics helping peeps' out, and, i knew that you can help fix my weird issue with minecraft: So, i have downloaded java 8 for windows 7, and i dont know if that was the most retarded thing you could do, or some other problem, because when i recovered from a blue screen, my drivers where unstable, got some new drivers, and now, when i open vanilla minecraft, everything would be fine, then, i decided to spice things up with a mod! but now.. everytime i try to open minecraft modded, the launcher would disapear, and nothing else would happen.... Is it a problem with java 8 being on windows 7? i tried to reinstall minecraft, but its still happening, please help me!
It looks like the launcher isn't able to contact the servers. Okay make sure that you're connected to the net and that you can contact the amazonws.com servers. Though I'm guessing that since you've not followed up in a month you're good to go.
I have just bought mine craft, and I am trying to use the launcher, and it keeps restarting. I have to download 40.34 mb, and when it gets to 2 or 3 mb, it starts over. I have turned off my firewall, as I thought that might be the issue. Any other suggestions?

@above, if the launcher is failing to download the files, the launcher should say what file it is trying to download, and you should be able to manually go to that location and install the file. Although that would be a long process.

You can use the older launcher I believe, the new one simply downloads it's own java runtime so you don't have to have java installed. The older one (NOT the old old one) simply requires you to install java yourself.

I was able to solve the issue by running the following command:
If you're in Windows, right click the new launcher, click on "Properties", and then click around that window to see where the "Run as admin" box was checked.
Try looking at the bottom of the compatibility section. It has the check box "Run this program as an administrator".
Is it checked? Uncheck it if it is checked, then press "Apply", then press "OK", then try to load minecraft.
Tell me if it still has an admin icon on the MC icon.

This happened to me today. I first re-installed the launcher and overwrote my other copy, so I thought that was the issue. Then I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the .dmg (Mac), and still getting this "Unable to update the native launcher" message. Lo and behold, a trip to Google shows that it's not just me.
I am having an issue everytime I try to login it crashes and tells me to update my video driver. Followed the instructions from the help site so here goes.

To MouseTrap:
If you're in Windows, right click the new launcher, click on "Properties", and then click around that window to see where the "Run as admin" box was checked.
Try looking at the bottom of the compatibility section. It has the check box "Run this program as an administrator".
Is it checked? Uncheck it if it is checked, then press "Apply", then press "OK", then try to load minecraft.
Tell me if it still has an admin icon on the MC icon.

I also cannot get the minecraft launcher to download minecraft for the first time on mac. It always ALWAYS stops just shy of the 59.92MB necessary.
It is typically 59.90MB or 59.77MB.
Have tried deleting and reinstalling the installer several times.
This happened to me today. I first re-installed the launcher and overwrote my other copy, so I thought that was the issue. Then I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the .dmg (Mac), and still getting this "Unable to update the native launcher" message. Lo and behold, a trip to Google shows that it's not just me.
Really hoping we get a fix to this soon.
I am having an issue everytime I try to login it crashes and tells me to update my video driver. Followed the instructions from the help site so here goes.
