i tried using the 'Local host", the ipv4 address and the routers address still nothing >.<
when i used the local host and when i used the ipv4 address i get the error, connection refused, if i used the routers ip i get connection timed out not sure if that means anything but thought i'd mention it
also i am have both the 64-bit java and the 32-bit java installed as one of my web browsers i use it 32-bit, could they be screwing with each other and causing this problem?
also something worth mentioning i just remembered is that it never is able to search for the games being hosted, i always have to use direct connect, it fails to find the hosted game every time, it does this for both computers doesn't seem to matter who hosts it, they can't find each other on their own when it searches for lan games in the multiplayer menu
I found a solution if no one ever found out why, (atleast for me) The firewall blocks the program. you need to go into your firewall and allow any and All "java™ Platform SE Binary", and make sure that they all are checked for private and public.
(not sure about public but i checked mine anyways)
I don't know if anyone else uses this but it could be...
Virtualbox
It had blocked the LAN for me. Your going to have to uninstall it, to get the easy way out.
I have a problem similar to this, but slightly different.
I have 2 computers, Comp1 (good computer) and Comp2 (bad computer). Both computers run minecraft OK, and so I use them both.
When I host a LAN server on Comp2, It says it opened a server on (random 4-digit port, usually starting with 1), and Comp1 can connect to it. When I host a LAN server on Comp1, it says it opened a server on (random 5-digit port, usually starting with 5), and Comp2 and any other computers CANNOT connect to it. No errors or anything, minecraft just cant find the server, like normal.
Help would be very much appreciated on this topic, I can't figure it out for my life.
Same problem me and my brother want to connect on a techinc launcher pack and I cant see the world in my multiplayer menu. I don't know if I do something different for techinc to make it work. Does anyone have a solution that could help me?
you could try "localhost", your ipv4 address, or your routers adress

Make sure to read the description for the java paths.
Windows 7 is under the 'old' section, 8+ for the 'new.'
I'm just laughing sitting in my low budget black office chair.
