I went to look for a solution on the mojang website but it would not load. I'm new here and also do not know where to put this topic. but, whenever i try to play minecraft it says i cannot play offlince b/c i cant connect to minecraft.net even though i am already logged on? please help me fix this. Also, my internet does not let me open minecraft in my browser :/
Solution 2:
(DO THIS IF NOTHING HAS WORKED FOR YOU ON SOLUTION 1)
Just wanna say this.
This solution is pretty tricky and may mess up your computer network config (which can restored easily) so make sure you do it right!
Do This 1. Open the command prompt (Right click on CMD then press "Run As Administrator"
2. Type in “netsh winsock reset” (without the quotes)
3. After resetting winsock, Restart your computer.
That’s it, you have successfully reset your winsock.
That's all I have.
I also have this problem I tried both the solutions for the link, and the solution you offered. Neither is working. I cannot log in using Tekkit either. I can however log in using MultiMC, but my issue with that is I have lost my worlds. This is very annoying especially since I paid for this. I am assuming it has nothing to do with the actual client because I little brother is playing his as I type this. I really hope that there is a solution found for this.
Based on what you have posted in the numerous other threads you have created, intead of putting all the information in one spot..
It sound like your java is not up to date.

Yeah. I made the mistake of deleting mine. It didn't help at all. But like I said, if you really want to play, you should be able use MultiMC. I just really feel jewed out of a game that I paid for. It was working completely fine a week ago. So I don't really understand what I could have done.
You have and AntiVirus of firewall that is blocking minecraft.exe and/or java.
The error tester was able to connect to the MC site just fine. So, it's not something global blocking it. Just blocking Minecraft.exe or java.
You need to figure out what is blocking MC from running, then fix it.
Once you fix it, you'll likely need to delete the bin again. (If you restore it)

That's another option, if you can't figure out what is blocking minecraft, try running multiMC. Most often, the AV/firewall won't block that, and it will run fine. I don't even have the vanilla launcher, I only use MultiMC.
I also thought that it was my AV blocking it. I have Eset, and I disabled everything on it. Still nothing. That was my first thought when this happened. I wouldn't mind using MultiMC, but I have to get the hang of it. I just got it today so I really don't know what I am doing. lol
MultiMC is great.
It's super easy to install mods, and you can have different mod setups (for different servers)
Even different versions. I still have a modded set up for 1.2.5 since a few of the mods I enjoy haven't updated yet.
But then I can switch the the latest version in a matter of a few clicks to play with the newest features.
just a few questions.
What is multimc, will it harm my computer?
My firewall is not blocking minecraft or java, how do i check if there is an anti-virus blocking it?
Solution 1:
Here is a thread discussing on some fixes you can try for this error.

Install the latest java for your OS from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Post the results back here
choose select all
that will copy everything into the clipboard
then you can just paste it in a reply here
.minecraft\bin\
folder
Then relaunch minecraft
Right click on the bin folder, and select properties.
Then go to the previous versions tab, and pick one of the older versions, then hit restore.
This is an older image showing how to restore the full .minecraft folder, but should give you enough of an idea.
