Minecraft runs pretty stable on my new computer, now. But from time to time I still happen to run in a CTD or bluescreen, when using some mods.
And whenever level.dat is corrupt after a crash, level.dat_old is corrupt as well. ALWAYS !
So, I am NOT asking for support for these crashes. Instead I would like to ask for a change of the way level.dat and level.dat_old are written to disk.
Maybe I missunderstand what developers intended level.dat_old to be used for. I was thinking that it was an "old" version of level.dat (even if only a few seconds old). And I wish I could copy level.dat_old over a corrupt level.dat to repair my world.
Minecraft could try that automatically, when it detects that level.dat is corrupt. To me it now looks like a programming error like "Minecraft detects that level.dat is corrupt but instead of copying level.dat_old over level.dat it copies level.dat over level.dat_old".
Feel free to move this to the suggestions forum, if you think it doesn't belong here.
