So, I've always had a problem with Multiplayer lagging. It's NOT MY FPS, it is ACTUAL lag. My system has no trouble actually running the game. Running all the graphics as high as they will go, I still get a frame rate of 60. If I turn the graphics down, I can get over DOUBLE that. It's not a memory or graphical issue. My graphics processor has a 2GB memory threshold, I've got 16GB of ram (even though I know only about half a gig goes to MC), and my processor and motherboard are RAD. I built this computer 2 months ago, it's pretty top-notch. It has nothing to do with that. If you want to know, I run Windows 7, 64-bit. YES I have the newest 64-bit Java installed. I even had someone suggest that I downgrade to Java 6. I tried that. Didn't work. NO, I don't have ANY mods or texture packs. I'm running pure, vanilla Minecraft, simple as can be.
I've done a speed test at speedtest.net, and come up with between 24-29 Ping, 32-35 Mbps downstream and 4-5 Upstream, over NUMEROUS tests (Like, over 10 different tests now). And anytime I'm on on a server, if I press "Tab" it shows that I have a full, five-bar connection to the server. And it doesn't matter which server I'm on, I always get the same amount of lag. There's a delay opening any object (Chests, crafting tables, furnaces, etc...), and mobs and other players skip when they walk. This makes it EXTREMELY difficult to fight anything or anyone, because it displays their location deceptively, and it's not HORRIBLE, but it's CONSTANT, and is just enough that it makes the game almost unplayable. And again, this happens on EVERY server, and believe me, I have tried COUNTLESS servers (randomly picking 2-3 servers at a time, connecting, and playing for about 10 minutes on each. Heavy traffic makes no difference. Whethere there are 2 people online, or 67 people online, the lag is the same across the board). Sometimes there are lag-spikes, but those are natural on any server, and I experience those naturally, so I'm not worried about that. I've turned off Windows Firewall. I've turned off Kaspersky anti-virus. My internet is hard-lined with ethernet directly from my modem to my PC. I CANNOT, for the life of me, figure out what's going on. Trust me, I've done some pretty extensive trouble-shooting. It's different from the usual "You need to turn down your graphics" or "Oh, you're having internet issues." And my account works just fine, and the launcher works just fine, yatta yatta yatta.
I feel like it has to do with connection problems. I KNOW it's not graphical issues. Single player runs amazingly well, and has never crashed, or anything weird like that. I feel like the servers are just not quite communicating with my computer as effectively as they should be. And I don't know what to do about that. I really love Minecraft, but I just cannot enjoy multiplayer the way things are, and it's pretty depressing...especially considering it's not my fault and I've done everything I can think of. I'm pretty sure everything's hunky-dory on my end...Any suggestions? I'm beggin' ya...
Okay, well to the response about the router, I already stated in my original post that "My internet is hard-lined with ethernet directly from my modem to my PC". So, yeah. That's out. And to your next suggestion, unfortunately the answer is no. Nobody else seems to be experiencing the lag. Again, this is on ALL servers. If everyone on ALL servers were experiencing this kind of lag, we would have been hearing about this by now. Thanks for the reply though. Glad someone's trying to help.
No, I haven't. I can try that though. I also contacted my Internet Service Provider, and they told me to run a trace on the server, but again, IT'S NOT JUST ONE server, so their method there is flawed...I'm starting to think I might just be boned...
So, I just created a minecraft server. Didn't do the port forwarding, so I can't have anybody else join, but I did join my own world. There was absolutely no lag. Everything was just fine. If you want me to do the port forwarding to see if anybody else has lag...Well, I'm just not gonna do that because my geek heart is broken :DAlso:
So check out this link and look at what was voted "Best Answer". I haven't been able to check this yet, but if it works I will try to popularize it. If this is the problem, then my only question is this: why do we have to do this in the first place? If it's not the problem...well, F***. Can anybody tell me why or how this should work, or let me know if you've experienced this problem/solution?
