Okay, so, my family has a communal computer that I play minecraft on, and I have an account and my vastly younger brother does not. I let him play once in a while, but he's always needed me to log in. However, he just found out from his friends that he can play offline mode on that computer without my intervention. This displeases me, because I've been able to actually make him behave once in a while by promising to buy him a copy in a couple months if he's good, and holding it over his head when he's not. If he can just wander into all the saves on that account unsupervised, that probably won't work anymore, plus I'm pretty sure he'll mess with my worlds.
Is there any way to make it so that the computer doesn't save the authentication every time? Or barring that, is there some way to get rid of the current authentication so I can set up minecraft under a new computer user account with a password?
Sorry, weird question I know. I hope it's okay to ask here.
Well, there's only one user account on the computer, so everyone has access to administrative powers. If I just delete the client and make a new account without administrative powers, would that work? Or could you just download the client again on the original account and still have it be authenticated?
well if you make a new profile on your computer then he shouldnt be able to access your worlds if you password protect your profile to move your saves just either copy or cut and past them into you new profiles app data .minecraft file because your app data is linked to the profile and not the computer he cant get onto your worlds unless he then goes and copies them back into the main profiles app data but if he does that it still wont effect your saves something else to do is hide your minecraft saves somewhere he wouldnt look and move them back into the saves folder when you get on to play
What i wanted to do with the other accounts is was the "run as administrator" option enabled for java.exe and javaw.exe so he needed administrator powers for minecraft.
Oh, I see, that makes sense. The only problem is that minecraft is already installed on the admin account, and my parents don't want me adding passwords (though in fairness they rarely use this computer anymore). I guess if I can thoroughly uninstall everything and then switch things over to a new account, it'll be close enough. I'll protect my saves now, in any case.
Thank you guys so much for your help, I really appreciate it.
