Me and my brother where playing are lan world when my laptop shutdown i charged it and a bit later we started playing again but when he opened are lan world and i joined it kept on saying connecting for around 30 seconds than it said no route to host we tried doing the firewall thing but on both on are computers it was off please help i would really be greatfull to anyone who tells me how to fix it
The LAN server does not appear when it attempts to scan for LAN worlds. I've tried direct connect, and the IP address my friend's Minecraft gave him is this:
I put that into direct connect, and I get the error message above. I know beggars can't be choosers, but please be clear if you give a solution. I say this because KittyCat122 up there failed to make her solution readable, and nothing grinds my gears more than instructions that are ambiguous because someone can't be bothered to type correctly.
I agree so dang much I just love your location thingie too! I am a grammar guru, and I hate it sometimes...
Ok I have had a bit of trouble with getting my LAN to work at well, but I have gotten mine resolved. First thing I found was with windows 7 the 2nd persons PC had their network set as "PUBLIC" and not "HOME" after I fixed that I was able to ping their IP. Next we had the infinite "Connecting to server/Connection timed out" after some digging on a few forums I figured out that when the host of the game sets the game as open to LAN in the bottom left of their screen it displays their IP and the port that the server is listening on, so on my end I have to direct connect to their IP and port (should look like 192.168.XXX.XXX:52YYY) additionally each time the host sets the game to LAN the port changes so each time I get ready to connect I have to ensure I'm using the new port. If you are using a 3rd party firewall you may have to shut it down when trying to play since the port does change. All 3 of the systems that I'm using are running Win7 with Windows firewall enabled and the default (prompted) exception for Minecraft. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Vista, 7, and 8 should be able to connect fairly easily to each other.
I hope this helps those of you still having issues with LAN connections.
I have a BIG problem This is happening to me in 1.7.2 version My friend Has a windows i have a mac so he STARTS a LAN World I try To join It just Say's connecting to server and then it just says something else but it's a long sentence So I try to start A LAN World and He doesn't Even see the LAN World AT ALL PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
guys to connect to LAN worlds or server u need to be near their computer or they need to be near like me and my brother we are near it wont work if u have slow minecraft u need a fast minecraft but my brother still can connect to me remember to get fast minecraft hope this help
Guys please reply I am having this same problem too. Before (like in minecraft 1.5.2-1.6.2 or something earlier) I tried to join my friends server by him doing open to LAN on his singleplayer world and so I found his game WITHOUT any ip or anything his server showed up (I was in his house), and we played fine. Now, like in minecraft 1.7, I can't join my friends servers. This occurred at two houses. We both logged in and both of us had different minecraft accounts, one of the houses allowed the firewall thing, and even found the ip, and even typed "local Host" and still nothing came up. Also, we had the same minecraft versions. Should I just downgrade to like minecraft 1.6.2 or something because I want at least if not higher 1.7.2. It just says cannot connect to server. Please reply as soon as possible!
you need to go into 1.3.1 and go into a minecraft world and pause it and then press 'open to LAN' and un-pause and you will see in the chat the IP address and write that down then make a server called LAN server and the address has to be the IP address you wrote down and then have you friend come over and if you can't connect then tell them to do the same thing and if you can connect then tell them to press 'Direct Connect' and tell them to type in the IP address. your welcome!
you have to be in 1.3.1 and make a minecraft world that is lan and then write down that IP address and make a server that has the IP address for the server address and then have your friends come over and press 'direct connect' and type in that IP address and if you cant connect to your server then have them make the server and you join their server.
step 1: Have your friend go to his command prompt bye going to start and typing cmd. (win xp or win 8 hold windows key and press R than type cmd and press enter)
step 2: Than have them type ipconfig into the command prompt
step 3: look for the IPv4 adress
step 4: You go to direct connect and type in the IPv4 address into it
step 5: have your friend host the world
step 6: than take the numbers that show up in their chat and add it to the end of the Ipv4 aderess in direct connect but have a colon before it ex:(V stands for IPv4 and N stands for the digits) VVV.VVV.VVV.VV:NNNNN

step 7 : connect and play with your friend
Thank you I will try to do so. I think what went wrong is that I typed whats my ip? on google and they said his public ip and not his local ip/IPv4 address! :\ So yeah... but what doesn't make sense is that at my house I can open to lan world and instantly show the open to lan world server without anything to do but go to multiplayer and click the server! No ips, no firewall switches, nothing like that. It's like that at my other friends house

That is exactly what happened with my firewall. The Java platform was not enabled under the allow programs section of the firewall. Once I enabled the home and the public, I had no problems connecting to each computer after that. Thank you for the great advice. :-)
Thanks
p.s. Were both on 1.6.1 and mac's
Ugh same for me but im on 1.6.2
