I'm sure you can occupy your time doing better things, if you can't stand minecraft being down for a few hours/minutes in a week, then you should stop playing it all together

Expecting a service you pay for to be available is not unreasonable. The service outages have become more common recently and take a long time to fix, especially on the weekends when Mojang appears to have little or no staff on the job.
must i remind everyone this is not a service you pay for. you may have paid for it but you do not pay for it. it is not like there is a monthly fee to play minecraft.
Of course its a service you pay for, when you buy the game it does not say " Expect not to play multiplayer at random times." People
buy the game expecting that they will be able to use its features. Eg. SMP

Ah, but it comes down to this: not only what they mentioned above with the paying for a service (Of which, certain parts of it we enjoy a bit more since they are only on multiplayer Survival Servers *coughbukkitpluginscough*) but also in my situation:
I get home from work, expecting some nice cool down time and time to relax while leveling up on my usual server. I can't log in. So, I wait it out. 3 hours later, when I need to go to sleep in order to get adequate sleep for tommorow's 10 hour shift, It's still down. Not only that, but it's the weekends, so I have to listen to my kid brother whine and complain because he can't get on his private server with his friends on the only day he can get on (Not allowed to play on weekdays during school).
This is getting really repetitive really quick. For such a large company, this is completely unprofessional and utterly ridiculous. They should be able to predict maybe a few million people are going to log in within a few minutes, and should have designed the servers to withstand such hold. I, personally, believe we the player, who support and keep this game running and possible, deserve an explanation to why such disregard has been given to the servers while the staff is out partying to DeadMau5.

I fully agree with you! i want a explenation for this!
Ya thats all I ask for. I know there is no monthly fee but we bought the game thinking we could play the game when we want for the most part. We all know it will be down from time to time, but it has been way to much lately and again with NO reason as to why till maybe after is so stupid. Even if its an update and they want to surprise us how hard is it to post/tweet server will be down for about this amount of time so dont plan on playing and make other plans or something?

Either way they have a duty to keep their customers informed - but they don't seem to ever do this.

Or somebody dumped their beer on the server.
