I was wondering if anybody has figured out why this keeps on happening whether I need a certain patch or it is my computer. What happens is that when I spin around, my arm will turn black and also this happens with the chests. When ever my cursor is over them, they also turn black.
I have Optifine running along with the game and it runs smooth enough.
Comptuer Specs:
Graphics: Intel HD
RAM: 4GB
CPU: Intel Core i3 2.4 GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
If you can't answer that part, then what version would you recommend that doesn't have very noticeable glitches like the black arm and chests? I haven't played in a while so I lost track about this game.
I think it's just lighting errors for both the chest and the arm.
EDIT: Actually, for the chests, I don't know, sounds like that story about the guy, whatever he touched turn to gold, except in this case everything turns black.
You see, my computer has two chips, one is an Intel Integrated Graphics chip, the other an NVidia chip. When using the Intel chip, when facing certain directions, my arm would turn black. There is no way to fix that (other than to maybe update your drivers, but I don't know about that).
tl;dr- it's your intel chip. As for chests, just break and replace them.
Here, prime example of it existing in the most recent update. I am running 1.2.5 (with optifine 1.2.4 (doesn't matter)) and you can see my hand is dark, the sign is dark, and the chest is dark. I am 100% sure its has to do with the post 1.8.1 lighting, and there will never be a fix unless minecraft gets another new lighting engine. We are SOL. Time to trash my laptop and get a real computer lol
Specs: Dell Inspiron 1420 (2007ish)
CPU: Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz
Memory: 3.00 GB

If anyone actually knows of a solution, do tell
- Java updates wont work
- Driver updates wont work
- Minecraft reinstall wont work
- Reinstall of windows wont work
Maybe Ill go try linux and see how my luck is.....
BTW, my parents old computer using a Nvidia GeForce fx5500 (oldschool lol) doesnt get this at all... opengl issues? GRRRR
Probably there was something wrong with the lighting system.
Same problem with me. I encountered it in 1.2.5. Some of the village's doors are black. Placing torches around, it worked fine.

The server is my own, but it doesn't matter. I get the same thing in Singleplayer. After playing Minecraft on a linux partition of the same computer, I didn't have the same problem..... So what does that mean? Linux have been driver support? Better java? better opengl support? IM SO CONFUSED!!!

Yea no can do. I'm not that stupid to delete necessary files for minecraft. Thanks for the reply though.
Go into .minecraft and delete the minecraft.jar,Open minecraft and click Force Update
That will reinstall the .jar and hopefully fix the error..
That still didn't work. :sad.gif: Are you having this problem with the new version? It seems like I'm the only one who is having this issue.
Well sometimes i get a black chest or a black sign...Its not a big problem.
Just more annoying :sad.gif:
I think its a lighting bug with the new lighting engine in 1.8
I dont think it was fixed in 1.0.0..
This keeps happining to me and its very anoying. I wish i knew how to fix. :angry.gif:

I've seen this before and refreshing the jar seems to help.
Helping raise Dragons
isn't a huge pain! Just
give 'em a click!
Way to necro-bump.
Honestly, does anyone read the posting date nowadays?
You're not the only one with this problem I have it too when 1.8 came out i had a black arm for some weird reason.
This post was made during 1.0.0, chances are he no longer has this problem.
Well, I have the same problem (ever since 1.8), except the same thing also happens to signs. If I have the problem, then he probably does.
