well basicly this is not coming from the mouse,etc.. It just of a crappy pc (Like mine -.-....). Unless if its your ram usage. I upgraded my RAM like 2 weeks ago the double clicking went away.
well i was having this same problem, it just started happening to me as well, unfortunately it is the CPU, but heres a few things i did, and it seems to be working fine for now, I use Windows however so I am not sure if this works the same on Macs. Pull up your "run" search bar, type in Power, once you do that click the "Power Options" tab, once you have done this check the box inside "Power Options" called "High Performance", Windows runs on a balanced performance as default to save energy. After you have done that you need to open your Task Manager, after this you need to click the tab at the top of the Task Manager window called "Processes", once inside processes scroll down until you see a process named "javaw.exe", right click on it, scroll down to "Set Priority", click on "High", and you should be good to go. While you have the priority set on high it will be using the most power to run Minecraft that it can out of your CPU, so it may make other programs unstable while you are running it in this mode, but all you have to do, is go back to the processes, and repeat the steps over and reset it on Normal to get the CPU balanced out amongst all of your programs again.

Hey guys. I have this problem too.
I'm wondering if there might be a client mod causing the issue?
List what you guys use. I have:
Optifine 1.2.5_HD_MT_A2, Rei's Minimap v3.0_04, and ControlPack v5.0.
I have a brand new mouse and no real lag while playing, but when I right click it constantly double clicks, making it rageworthy to go through fence gates and place blocks.
Here is a video showing the problem. I am opening and closing a door as an example. Clicking sound included. Also annoying when opening a door with blocks, it can place the chosen block after opening the door.
I do not have an issue at all, but my little brothers pc does it. It is possibly because his computer is not very powerful, and after installing optifine the issue disappeared completely.
I found that as soon as I changed the double click speed to the fastest possible, the problem disappeared. I also got a gain in FPS while placing blocks. I am using a wired Microsoft mouse, and a Toshiba Portege A600 laptop.
I can't promise anything, but I'll decompile minecraft and look into the issue. Hopefully I'll be able to write a mod that will fix this problem. I figure all I have to do is add a Thread.Sleep(100) to a while() loop. I might even make the time configurable! I can't do any of this now, I'm very sick this week and last week
Having same issues... definitely not computer as i have a Nvidia GTX 580 graphics card, 8 gigabytes of ram, i7 3.4 GHz processor etc.... very powerful. What im noticing is that alot more people have started posting that they are having issues recently. I hope and think that it may just be a bug that some people get. Please tell me if u find a solution...
I've been experiencing this for the past week since I started playing again. It's important to note that I am running the Technic/Tekkit packs (does it in both).
However, I'm running a pretty powerful computer that should have no problem running a game like this.
It's not my mouse either. Razer naga that has no problems in other games. I have tried tweaking every setting inside Minecraft, tried tweaking my system mouse settings - nothing. I have Technic set to utilize 4GB of ram, and have set my java.exe process to high priority. This bug is REALLY starting to **** me off.
I've been having this problem for a long time, even before running Optifine. Optifine does help to correct this to some degree, but it doesn't get rid of it completely. I'm also running with a lot of settings set down, with MaxFPS set and my battery settings set to High Performance. I've also got the OpenGL set to Fast. These settings seem to help alleviate some of the problems but I still manage to have this problem rear it's ugly head every once in a while. Granted, I'm playing this on my laptop, so the power is really not there, but with a problem this widespread I don't think it's purely hardware related.
I have a few theories with how this could be happening:
I haven't looked at the code, so I couldn't say anything for certain, but I have a feeling that the process handling of the system could be stopping and starting the process of placing the block. I don't think this is the root of the problem though because this is happening on multiple systems, each with their own process handler.
I've also considered the fact that if the processor is having to generate a lot of activity, i.e. mobs, water flow, lava, etc., then it is putting a strain on the processor and slowing the game down. Fps drops down and the resulting lag could be interrupting the process that is in charge of placing a new block or some sort of action. I have a theory that when building on a regular map, the connecting tunnels in the same chunk could contain something like this that would flood the processor with jobs that could result in this sort of lag. The double click problem seems to be localized to only certain areas at a time, which makes me think this. However OpenGL should be allowing the processor to ignore things that aren't in sight, so this shouldn't be a problem if the OpenGL settings are set to Fast. I could be misunderstanding how this works, however.
I haven't built much on a Superflat world to see if something like this could be the problem, but it would definitely be something to look into.
Having said all this, I'm not mad at Notch and co. about this. I still love playing Minecraft and it's one of my favorite games to be released in the past decade. I just wish we could find a solution for this problem that so many people seem to be having.
i really hope this bug is fixed soon on my game it doubleclicks everytime i click, it clicks so much i now like minecraft less. ITS SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!

Okay so I doubt it's helpful, but just adding that I have this problem as well. I thought the new 1.3.1 update would solve it but I couldn't have been more wrong. It seems to do it even more now than before. I'll be building a house and click once to place a block and a whole row of four or five will place in front of my pointer. The same goes for left clicking. Though the left click is mainly noticable in creative mode when trying to delete ONE block, an entire section of my roof will disappear...
I can't open doors or pickup/drop water, I can't activate levers without them automatically deactivating. I don't think it has anything to do with the size of the structures around me in game, as some people suggested earlier in the thread, because I've tried it in the middle of nowhere and even on flat maps with no buildings and it double/triple places immediately.
What I've tried to fix it:
Rebooted my computer, no fix
uninstalled/reinstalled MC, stopped for maybe 5-10 minutes then grew increasingly worse again.
tried with optifine when i was using 1.2.5, no help
I always run MC on high priority to make it run smoother and I defrag and scan my computer periodically.
I have tried the game on all render settings, and graphics options.
PC runs on high preformance
Tried with touch pad, and two different mouses, testing all mouse options through windows.
Nothing seems to be helping enough to be worthwhile.
I Sincerely hope someone finds a fix for this soon, It will cause me to stop playing minecraft, which I would hate to resort to.
OH and one thing to add, For some reason, the only time I don't have this problem is on a couple multiplayer servers i'm on. Though even then it happens very occasionally.
Stop blaming Minecraft.

It's Minecraft.
People can run other game with full setting, no big deal, but Minecraft is different.
I don't know much about the differences, since I don't play them, but it's lag.
I get the same effect, except for when I'm NOT lagging.

I turned the graphics down :]
I installed Optifine and it helped a lot.
I suggest you looking at this thread for support:
