Hello, I have another suggestion. This one is very simple, a redstone powered lift!
Of course, to build the lift, you will need a few things. The first one is the gears, to determine the path of the lift. To build the gears, you will need iron and redstone.
This will create 4 gears for you to use. You can place them anywhere but on top of walls. They look like tiny little gears on the wall.
Next you will need the lift itself using a stone pressure plate, iron and redstone.
This will create a lift for you to use.
Once you have your lift, you can place gears on whatever path you want it to go on. The lift looks like a thin slab of stone with an iron outline and a hint of red on the edges. If you want the lift to go, simply place a lever or button next to it and it will activate, and contuine to move as long as it has a redstone signal. If you used a button, it will only move to the end of the gears before stopping, meaning you need 2 buttons. But this is quite good because it won't contuine running. It moves almost as fast as sprinting and could be used for building, parkour or casual transport ( if you have a lot of redstone ).

The idea would be great, for a mod. In-game though I just don't see it happening. I don't see these ideas that add more technology oriented objects to a survival based game. Sounds cool, but truly it's unnecessary.
This ideas seems unnecessary, just build a redstone elevator yourself. With all the new redstone features I see it possible to emulate a working lift in Minecraft.

If only I could aim.
Gears were originally supposed to be implemented as a block to carry power/energy, but was replaced with red stone.
