Launching savegames in Minecraft is currently riskful. Players risk accidentally launching their saved games with the wrong profile, Minecraft version, texture packs or addons. Sometimes ruining and screwing up the gameplay.
Not only that but having different savegames with different texture packs, profiles and mods has other disasvantages.
Having to switch folders all the time makes launching a game cumbersome and slow.
You have now bloat because of duplicates for every savegame that needs the mods, ...
A save game tab in the launcher provides a more elegant, robust, easier to use solution.
It provides a one stop shop for managing all the control options and settings for saved games.
To remedy this situation, an extra tab in the launcher from where savegames can be selected and launched is proposed.
Allowing players to assign profiles, Minecraft versions, texture packs and mods to specific save games.
The launcher saves all this information and makes sure saved games are launched with the correct Minecraft version, profile, texture packs and mods.
The tab provides an easy and fast way to select a saved game and press play.

You make a game.. To exit you MUST "Exit and Save" soo either way you still save... If you just CTRL + ALT + DELETE or tab out and exit well good luck with your save (if it does that's on you)

Just use the proflie to divide the versions (1.8 profile, 1.7 profile, 1.6...)
Then make one for Snapshots. This kind of uneccessary , since it's already possible.
Agreed with JavaMatrix add a bit more information so people don't get misunderstood xP
But if not using Forge ,and able to play Minecraft WITHOUT switching accounts ,and going to Forge able to play with Mods / Texture packs enabled well I'm all for so that way everytime I login I'll be able to load up a save with that texture / mod .

A. Move the mod file out of the MODS folder
or
B. Add another mod into the folder to disable current (2 mods in 1 folder it won't makeout with what mod you're trying to play)
But still be rather nice to have mods / texture packs enabled rather then having to switch folders all the time.
