So basically for this idea, there would be an additional folder in your .minecraft folder. It would be called music obviously, and you would put any music from your library list into it. Then, in game, there would be different discs with the names of the songs you have. If you have played GTA 3 for pc, there was a very similar system where you could put songs of your choice into an MP3 folder, which then in-game, could be played in your car. Criticism and suggestions on this topic would be useful.

I do not know whether songs would be limited to all the colors known (to show which disc was which) or if all discs should be green and yellow but their titles should be different.

Yes yes yes!
Been posting this to mojang's idea box for a while.
A great example of how this would work is in my Wonderland custom adventure map and Fear in a Handful of Dust.
Map makers can record dialogue instead of having to read so much. You come across a checkpoint, find the related music disc, and put it in the jukebox. Then you can keep playing while you listen instead of having toggle out of the game.
Sounds good. Creepers or even rarer monsters could drop these discs. Or you would have to find them in chests. Preferably, you could create the disc yourself and it would randomize a song not used from the list and burn it onto that disc.

Have you seen the Yogscast videos of revisiting the Astley residence or sneaking into Jasper's house? Where the music could be heard like it was in game but they had just edited it? It would be like that, whenever the music was playing inside a closed room, it would be muffled, but once an opening was created you could hear it clear.

I would prefer to have an unlimited supply of music that I choose by running a music player while I play.

You could put the songs in a playlist in a loop if wanted. Also, playing iTunes in the background would be a little lame. Also using music during TeamSpeak, Ventrillo, Mumble, XFire, or Skype would be inconvenient and awkward. Why not just play the music in game? Other players could here it at a distance of up to around 30 meters.

Thats not really the point. First of all, Minecraft music barely ever plays. So, in fact, you could download the minecraft music (or buy it, SUPPORT THEM!), put it in the minecraft folder/music disk, and play it in game if you just wanted minecraft type music. Its more for servers to add some of your personality to a house. So you could play minecraft music (or music similar to it, so basically ambiance music/ambiance minor techno/trance music/ambiance classical/classical), hip hop/rap, country, rock, metal, etc. And it wouldnt be in the way of other peoples gameplay until they came 20-30 meters within the houses room that has the box.
Build the tune through note blocks? A little messy and not as good as the actual song but if you really wanted to and dont have/own the song it would work.

Refer to past comments. There could be a translator that ever song would be put through and it could minecraftized if you really wanted to go crazy...but thats stupid.

How would this be at all different from, say, turning down Minecraft's music and playing your own with another program?
Minecraft should have Minecraft music.
When I try to play a music program at the same time as Minecraft, the lag I always have to deal with just gets worse.
Minecraft can have Minecraft music for players up to the point at which they choose to change it. We're just asking for more options, and hoping for an easy, pain-free way to add other kinds of music. (I'd love to play Super Hostile's harder sections to songs by Sabaton, though if the game could only play midis I have a bunch of Final Fantasy music that I also enjoy. Oh, and the Lemmings soundtrack.)

My YouTube channel is currently on hiatus, but I hope to get back to it at some point. Content is fairly random, but can be enjoyable, and is mostly game footage (mostly random Minecraft clips) from my nephews and me. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!

Thats what has been suggested and I still totally agree that that should be an option.
