I'm not a minecraft veteran by any means, although I've been playing the game for quite some time now.I recently came to realize that there aren't many farming bocks in minecraft . There are only 3 to be specific:
1.Farming Block (Using a Hoe on a dirt block.)
2.Composter(Gives the profession 'Farmer' to a villager. Also helpful in making bone meal.) &
3.Hay bales (can be crafted using a crafting table using 9 wheat ;can be placed as a physical block.)
P.S. Apologies, If I'm missing something out.
I, however have a suggestion for a new category of farming blocks. The blocks being:
1.Cow/Sheep feeder (feeders for cow/ sheep that give wheat when a cow/sheep is in the mood to eat.)
2.Trough(Throff) (feeds carrots pigs when they are in the mood to eat. )
3.Chicken feeder (feeds wheat seeds, melon seeds and/or pumpkin seeds to chicken when they ae in the mood to eat.)
That's about all the blocks I could come up with. However, I personally think that these blocks could be seriously helpful for a player in a new survival/hardcore world, as he will have to spend less time breeding the animals manually and just put the correct food items in the designated feeders.
Might I suggest an all purpose trough instead? The Quark Mod adds a Trough Block that can be filled with seeds, wheat, or other useable foodstuffs either by a player or a hopper in order to breed animals automatically. For balancing, using a feeding trough to breed animals only works about a third of tie time, making it more efficient to breed by hand. (Incidentally, Quark also adds compacted block versions of other foods, such as basket blocks of carrots and apples.)
I would say this: I for one like this idea, and think automatic farming ought to be a thing- or at the very least a bit less nonsensical, seeing as the current ideal for farming meat literally consists of dumping a bunch of cows in a hole until they aphyxiate. An automatic feeding trough would encourage new designs of auto farms, and I for one don't think it would be overpowered. (Especially given how effective the whole cow thing is.)

Nice job for a first post, by the way!

I don't oppose.
But i can't understand why new blocks must be added for auto feeding.
Cows and sheeps could automatically eat haybales.
(Altough the haybale is on it's own very powerful if you think about how much bread you can store as haybales)
Horse ect wouldn't breed but heal instead and stop eating when fully restored.
Do i need this feature? No.
Cows in a hole is simple enough for me. But i can't ignore this request, wich comes up over and over.
The only bad thing about the haybale solution is the minimal "griefing".
Becouse those mobs would then grief your haybales. Some persons might not like that.
Imagine a farmer in real life, beeing mad at his livestock for eating his decoration...
But minecraft doesn't need to be more realistic and i can understand if players wouldn't want this added.
Edit:
I thought this a bit further. Haybales could work like cake in this cenario, 3 slices minimum.
Since haybales are craftet from 9 wheat, they would only feed 9 times until they are completely gone.
Using shears/hoe you could slice the haybale yourself for decorational purpose. The wheat would be dropped.
Punching the haybale would eather drop the whole block (if unsliced) or destroy the remains.
If a farming tool would be necessary to drop the wheat this would potentially nerf villages,
if animals start eatintg them before you can mine them.
Personally I would be okay with that but i can understand the uproar against a tiny nerf.
My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
