How about adding a giant venus fly trap or a man eating plant as a new mob ? It could maybe even spit poison from a distance. It could maybe use the same sound effect as a llama when it spits. Hhawwk toooo!
Please describe why your suggestion would be useful. It doesn't really seems to serve as a purpose. Usually if that would be added I would atleast consider it being a friendly mob towards the player and taming it to defend it's homes against hostile mobs. Pretty much eating them.

I removed the last line about other unrelated mobs because there was no detail to that part and it made this thread a wishlist. Please keep the thread and discussion focused on the venus fly trap mob.

I can imagine it as a mob functioning similar to fish buckets but with flower pots. You could move it around and place it down, then tame it. It'll take root in the pot and can be moved around, or it can be tamed and take root in the ground. From there, it could function similarly to a Chomper from Plants vs. Zombies: eat the first mob near it, chew on it for a while, then swallow and repeat. It could potentially even store a drop from its kill.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
I like all of the suggestions other people have made, i never thought about being able to tame it or put it in flower pots, i like those ideas a lot! I just kind of pictured it as growing put of the ground and spitting poison at the player from a distance, (which would of course give the player the poison effect for a short time,) and bite as a melee attack when you get too close . In my head i kinda pictured it looking like a real venus fly trap with multiple "heads" growing from one stem, maybe even adding goofy googly eyes on each head..or not.... Maybe it could even grow over time if its not killed or chopped down. Possibly even have a limit on how big it can get if placed in a flower pot vs getting bigger if placed in the ground. It kind of seems like mrcringe11 was thinking itd swallow the player up in 1 bite where i think of the bite being a melee attack that takes away small amounts of hp with each bite, but if you have it grow over time it could do both...
Im not sure how youd tame it tho, feed it bone meal , or feed it other mobs when it got big, i like the idea of taming it, i could see people having it pop out of dispensers as a trap, i suppose it would need to b in a flower pot to do that. When i said "giant" I probably shouldve been more specific, i picture it being 2-3 blocks tall, (which would vary if it grows) not enormous, when i said giant i guess i meant as opposed to a real venus fly trap that doesnt get bigger than your hand
Its kinda cool that this idea is actually going somewhere i guess i thought it would just get lost and nobody would ever see it. Since bees were just added i could totally see a venus fly trap eating bees somehow. But i can also see "feeding" it rotten meat for 2 reasons, 1 being itd be a practical way to tame it, and rotten meat can be used from the players inventory/hot bar. 2. There isnt really any use for rotten meat and the player ends up with so much of it from killing zombies and etc, i usually end up just throwing it away somewhere. Plus i had a venus fly trap wgen i was about 8 years old and you can feed it bits of ground beef, so it makes sense. (i unfortunately killed it cuz i left it out in the sun on the porch) But also it grows in peat moss so maybe it could grow in podzol blocks in the game? Only problem with that is i dont think podzol blocks are spawned in jungle biomes, and i think jungle biomes would be a natural place to encounter a venus fly trap, plus i heard mojang is looking to add things to jungle biomes so it fits in with that. Im not a great artist but ive been working on a few drawings id like to upload, (with and without googly eyes)but i dont see a place to upload images, if anyone knows where i could upload a picture of my drawings please let me know, im trying to keep it simple and not too intricate so it fits in with all the other icons in the game. thank you very much for considering this idea and for the feedback also. I appreciate the ideas others have added.
EDIT : So i was just reading about venus fly traps to get some ideas for drawings, and it says the only place they still live in the wild is a 100 mile stretch of SAVANNAH in North and South Carolina, not in the jungle like i assumed,
I had some ideas inspired by an altered beast boss
A block with a digestive side which causes poison pink maybe spike and 3 other green sides cpuld be cool
This wpuld be used to build like green living caves and the leaf trapdoor idea i mention before cpuld be placed over a hole with this digestive sides facing inwards.
Maybe eye cubes could be on a large pink face of a plant like this and they slowly home in on the player with the same animations as in altered beast like getting flatter then more tube like, like crawling through the air like slugs. Maybe these eye blocks could then be used in building a static eye would be cool but it would be cooled if like the pupil could move on its side and follow the player with like a bloodshot effect on the opposite side of the block.
Creative players could make statues or paintings with eyes that followed players, and these eyes could be placed on the walls of the plant caves.
I know this is more alien than plant. Maybe more suited to a lovecraft/end dimension.
I know i took the ideas in a different direction but they were inspired by your ideas. Hopefully my ideas inspire others and we can keep the creativity flowing.
Creativity is what is most important here i think.
MCF_191767120, there could be more than 1 kind of plant, there doesnt have to be just 1........ Im just trying to keep mine fairly simple only because thats how everything else in the game is, and id like to come up with a little icon for it so it fits in with all the rest of the game`s themes. Man i havent played Altered Beast in forever.....good old days .....
This sounds like a Jungle biome type of mob. Sitting quietly waiting for any unlucky mobs to fall into its gaping maw. Maybe it could be more of a natural hazard rather than a potential companion? It seems to monstrous to be a companion unlike the likes of Wolves.
Its main disadvantage as a guard-dog type tameable mob would be its inability to move. However, if you want a darker spin on the tameable Venus Fly Trap idea then how about it having to be fed more to grow bigger and bigger similar to Audrey II? Maybe it becomes hostile if you don’t feed it?
How about adding a giant venus fly trap or a man eating plant as a new mob ? It could maybe even spit poison from a distance. It could maybe use the same sound effect as a llama when it spits. Hhawwk toooo!

It could be both!
Initially hostile but tamable.
Just testing.
True. True.

Since venus fly traps eat flies and other small insects, I'd imagine taming it with rotten flesh since the rotted meat would attract insects.

I think a plant type enemy would be very interesting. Maybe even a pitcher plant. Or like a violent fungus with tentacles.
I was thinking ants would be good to add to the game maybe there can be some kind of symbiotic relationship between some kind of plant and ant.
Maybe ants feed the plants and the plants excrete some kind of healing/stat boost nectar. King of how ants farm certain insect species like aphids.
Maybe a trap door plant, like a leaf block on the ground opens up and you fall in and get poisoned
