Hi, I had an idea, what about unlit torches? No I don't mean burnt out torches I mean unlit torches, like if a torch is destroyed by water than it becomes unlit and if you combine it with flint it re-lights, it will make minecraft more realistic, so make sure to leave feedback and suggest how to make this idea better.
Seems like an unnecessary extra step for absolutely no benefit, to be honest. Sure it would be more realistic but realism typically does not make good gameplay is very rarely fun.

I see potential in this. unlit torches could be very useful for ambiance, maps and puzzles. For example, there's a room full of burnt-out torches, you have to lit them all to send a signal to a comparator that would open a piston door.
Realism is not a good reason for anything. This isn't a bad suggestion, per se, but you do not have any good reasons to have it in the game. Until you can list some, this does not have my support.
OK, maybe it should be that the unlit torches give off a low light level for horror maps as an alternative to redstone torches, and have it be an alternative for lighting a nether portal (so it doesn't Light your house on fire if you miss.)
and I shoud make it so you right click with the flint on the unlit torch instead of in the crafting grid, and I should make it so lit torches set off a comparator signal.
Let me know how I can improve this idea and support if you like this idea!

If you intend to change your suggestion, please edit your first post so that people new to it don't have to scroll down to see what you've changed.
With the OP's changes to the idea (or even without them), I would be okay with this as a map maker item only. If Unlit Torches could be lit to become normal Torches but regular ones wouldn't go out, and you had to get them from a command or the creative inventory I would be okay with it.

Obtaining them only by crafting a torch with a water bottle is a probably a better idea. Partial Support.
Good Idea
