So i was thinking. Maps are always cluttered with glowstone and torches. Why not have a only accessible in creative light source, that provides light without an eyesore. Obviously your player could walk through it and items wouldn't clip it. The only problem would be that it takes up one block of space. I think it would help map makers light up their map without having to constantly put lamps and torches. Also it would be very easy to code. The invisible light block would give of the same amount of light as glow stone. Remember to support and drop a comment of how this idea can be improved. Or a shorter better name er something.
Great idea. I'm all in favor of making more adventure map tools.
I suggested two related suggestions:
Forcefield Block - Basically invisible bedrock, placeable in creative mode
Block X - A design it yourself block, allowing people to create blocks with any properties they want. You could create an invisible lightsource with that if you wanted to. Or disguise a light source as cobblestone or any other material.
I think an invisible light block is universally useful enough it should be added on its own too.
I have seen the forcefeild block before in thory and i think it would be good for maps, im not sure about block x though. wouldn't people have to install it to the .minecraft. If it did it automaticly then it would be waaay to hard to code right.for the block x i guess you could leave an empty slot in all of the id places, but wouldn't the map maker have to code it all in?
I'm sure this would prove useful. Until it arrives, you have other options. One is recessed lighting, where you get good looks and light but it makes design harder. You also can use netherrack, fire, slab roof (it's transparent to light).
I was thinking they should make a new (an invisible torch) then thought about glowstone dust. It would be cool if you could use glowstone dust on any block to light up that block like a glowstone until its destroyed. If you use it on a dirt/grass block it should stay lit up even when grass grows or is removed by sheep or even a hoe. I think if this idea were to pass they should make you use the same amount of glowstone dust it takes to make glowstone (x9). You would be able to light anything up without seeing a thing or they could put some sparkles from the dust on the block as well. either way it would beat using glowstone and torches to light up things like a farm field.
until this happens (if it happens) I'll be trying to edit out the textures of the torch in a texture pack to just make torches invisible. so far I got to just the fire from the torch is seen.
There is nothing wrong with their post. Since they are providing a reasonable continuation of the discussion and there doesn't appear to be any other active thread for the same concept, this isn't considered necroposting.

I like this idea, but it might even be better if you there was also a block for mapmaking where visually, you couldn't see the light coming from it, but it would be there. This would prevent monsters from spawning in certain dark areas.
It would be better to me as a command "togglelight x y z strength" maybe.

Sometimes I think people pay more immediate attention to joke, troll, vague, and wrong section threads here instead of the actual proper suggestions.

I like this idea. I will definently help map makers a lot, and lighting will be less of a problem. Support

YES YES YES!!! this is a great idea and for curtain maps this would just work out fantastic!
I support
I may add this to my mod now.
