I know it's not a bug- Mojang purposefully made the /entitydata command completely ignore players. My only question is Why? I honestly see no reason for them to do that- it's not like changing a player's NBT data would hurt anything. For example: /entitydata @p {Motion:[0.0,1.0,0.0]} would cause a player to go up into the air just like any other entity- and if hooked up to a clock, it would make them effectively levitate. (I know Levitation is going to be a thing in 1.9, I was just making an example). What would that hurt?
And come to think of it, there are no NBT tags that mess up gameplay: if a tag isn't compatible with players, just make it do nothing. {direction} isn't compatible with Zombies, right? But if you tried to put it on a zombie it wouldn't get corrupted or anything; simply nothing would happen. The same idea would apply to players. If an NBT tag doesn't fit, just make it do nothing.
Also, if a player leaves the world, all their modified NBT data would be erased. Just to clear that up.
So what do you think? Should entitydata apply to players?
