A new rail that interacts with the minecart directly.
The idea is to have a docking rail that can be switched between two states, (as the daylight sensor can) to change it's behavour slightly.
One state will detect if the minecart is full, and the other will detect if it's empty, this could potencially simplify and encourage more minecart contraptions and add a whole bunch more fun with just one rail.
Imagine, being able to automate the filling of furnance carts, changing the track to split full minecarts (even ones with players in them) and empty minecarts down different tracks to do different things.(Name suggests it can only do one thing, dock, but it can do more, so much more, I just can't think of a name, help? Omnirail perhaps?)What do you think?
Isn't this just a Detector Rail hooked up to a Comparator? I mean this is slightly easier than doing it with a Detector and Comparator, but this is already possible and pretty easy to do.

It's nothing like a detector rail hooked up to a comparator, though I can see the similarities, it does perform different actions.
Thanks for stating that Badprenup. I was pretty sure comparators could already be used, I just didn't know exactly how.
That said, I don't know if it is worth implementing a new piece of rail to replace a fairly simple redstone contraption.
Fairly simple is a matter of knowledge my friend.
However, the item I have in mind can do things that can't yet be done, perhaps I haven' explained it properly, my apologies, however I realise it can also do things that detector rails can do; That's probably where you are all getting confused, again that's my fault not yours.
This could potencially replace the detector rail, or act as an advanced detector rail that takes diamonds in place of iron to make.
I have trouble seeing what this rail would do that a detector rail doesn't. A comparator outputs 0 iff the chest is empty, 15 iff it is full.
Edit : ah, detecting a player. That's interesting, but already trivial with a fencepost + pressure plate or a tripwire.
That's when it gets bulky and messy at best, however it wouldn't just be able to detect a player in the minecart, in it's other state it would be able to detect when nothing is in the minecart making it able to perform other tasks, it is also like the powered rail in the sence that you can stop it minecart in its tracks based on it not outputting a signal.
For example if you have an empty minecart you are able to make it stop where it is, using a comparator you can choose at what percentage full the minecart can go again.
I guess it's a silly thing I'm suggesting, after descussing this with all of you I've realised I've compacted all four rails into a single one with a few extra uses that the others can't do but that can't be done without the properties of the others.

would make using chest minecarts much more useful. support
Support, but change it so that it outputs a redstone signal from 0-15 depending on how full the cart is.
Please don't PM me asking for help, I will just redirect you to the appropriate forum, where there are others who are far more skilled than me.
This is not the signature you are looking for.

It is supposed to always give a full streanth signal, but you are able to use a comparator to change the output.
