I set up a system similar to what Direwolf20 did in episode 8 to pump lava from the Nether and place it into cans with a Liquid Transposer. I also put down an Ender Chest in both the Nether and Overworld so cans can go into the chest and be accessed without entering the Nether. But I haven't figured out a way in which I can get empty cans into the top slot of the Liquid Transposer automatically. I tried this with a wooden transport pipe, but it pulled out the full lava cans first.
In addition, I put down a Chunk Loader in the room so the Redstone Engines will continue pumping lava when I am not there.
Edit: I ended up having to place a second Ender Chest there, meaning I needed four total. It will serve as an input chest for empty cans.
Actually, you can use a RedPower filter to pull specific items. That's what Dire used, as you'll see in later episodes.

I just constructed a blaze farm as shown in season 5 episode 17 with a tier 5 soul shard but for some reason the blazes spawn and then disappear instantly. I took it out of the farm and ran it in the open and still they won't stick around long enough to die. Any suggestions?

Is it actually a tier 5 and not 4? Otherwise, I'm not sure, and maybe you should ask in the thread for the Soul Shards mod.

If you need help, then that's a problem, since Thermal Expansion is the one mod that let's you assign input and output slots to any face of the block except the front, so you have no excuse of not being able to figure out how to do something the machines were all designed specifically to be flexible with. (No offense.) They even output to the pipe, inventory, or other Thermal Expansion machine's input face touching the output face of the block by themselves.
And why are you trying to input with a wooden pipe? Unless the enderchest is only one block away . . .
I feel like I need to see a picture of this.
This is how I have the system configured for now:
I'm thinking I may only need a single Ender Chest if I place it on top of the Liquid Transposer. Then I can eliminate the other chest, the wooden pipe, redstone engine powering it and most of the transport pipes. A 9x9 doesn't make for a lot of room.
I've left it like this for now, and I also have it connected with a Wireless Transmitter/Receiver to my base in the Overworld.
Making 4 Ender Chests may seem costly in terms of Ender Pearls and Blaze Rods, but having a sword with Looting III on it really helps. I've been killing quite a few Endermen lately, and also have a Blaze Spawner XP farm in the Nether. I have already gotten back the 4 Pearls I used in the chests, plus the one in the Chunk Loader.
The lava source I am pumping from appears to be quite large; I may have to consider building a Railcraft storage tank to hold all of it. The smallest size one is probably what I will go with (5x5 on the outside). That can hold 576,000 buckets worth of liquid.

Actually, the number shown in Railcraft tanks is not flat buckets. Fluids in BC (and now Forge) are measured in millibuckets. That is, thousandths of a bucket. 1/1000. So the 5x5 Railcraft tank can hold 576 buckets. That's still a goodly amount, but not nearly the number you thought it was.

hey dire, i need some help, can you tell me exactly what procedure i need to go through to update your modpack to 1.4.7 so that i can update my server this week?
i really let you slide on this for a long time already, near a month we've been stuck with 1.4.6 for no reason, if there is one and i'm not seeing it, please explain, too lazy is not valid of course.

24 hours gone again, wasted in futility, welcome to minecraft modding, that is (unfortunately) our community.
(an ode to minecraft modding)
i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
Here's an odd one, while in the Nether had to make a really quick exit into the portal to overworld
(Ghast bombardment) but I did not pop out of my own portal which is further to the north of main house, I popped out of a portal I did not make and it's up a tree.
Anyone else have this happen?
Following Direwolf20's series so I am thinking one of the mods cause this?

Anyone else run a server of Dire's pack and have it still stuck on v3? Tried updating it tonight in hopes of getting the v5 update but even a fresh download and install of the server files keeps me at v3.
Edit: Think I managed to fix it but now my client crashes when trying to launch v5. Downloaded straight from the client and I recieve the following crash report. (I would hide it under a spoiler but I have no idea how)

Commenting on S5E18 that was recently uploaded: Damn that power drained fast with the Quarry. Ive run into similar problems myself. Turning the max output of the Energy Cell down to a much lower number seems like it would solve all DWs problems(Sorting Machine/Recycler backlog, Energy Drain). Would there be a way to turn all those Blaze Rods into a large amount of Buildcraft power?

That's not a mod behavior, that's vanilla. Nether distances are measured at a ratio of 1:8 Overworld blocks. That is, traveling 1 block in the Nether will carry you 8 blocks of Overworld distance. This is useful for spawning portals, which perform a search for already-active portals every time you go through one. Here's more info about distance and portal spawning, straight out of the Minecraft Wiki.

I had forgotten about that one. Now time to go test which one is the most efficient.
I'm pretty sure steam is more efficient, but it requires a constant input of fuel to maintain temperature, unlike IC2 power which is persistent until used. The electric engine uses 6EU/MJ base, and you can add a circuit board with various electron tubes to adjust its output and energy requirements. This uses a soldering iron. Remember that the numbers after tube properties are how many you can have per circuit board, and add the circuit board last or you'll get only the first tube you use. You can also just slot a single electron tube. If you want your circuit board or tube back when it's time to move the engine, use the soldering iron on the circuit slot. This will damage the iron but recover your stuff. Otherwise, your addons are destroyed when you break the engine.

Already had learnt much of that from either trial and error, or from Dire's many videos.
But when I said efficient, I intended to look at a merely Blazes input to MJ output ratio. ATM, I am already using the steam boiler setup, and until fully heated up, it eats through rods like mad.

Why yes there is:). Coming soon!
I can see three ways at the moment:
Hobbyist Steam Engine
Stirling Engine
Steam Boiler to any Steam Engine (may be industrial)
Are there any others?
IC2 generator to Forestry's electric engine (perhaps with a batbox or other storage unit in between).
