I use Quicktime to record MC, though it's a Mac restricted recorder, as well, it needs you to use your mic to capture in game audio [Like hitting a tree].
Is there any free Linux ones that are'nt .exe? I am not able to open .exe files. And all of these are .exe.
I've suggested ffmpeg, did you see the first page? It works for linux, mac and windows. I use linux and here is the command you use once you have it installed to record sound and audio: ffmpeg -f x11grab -s wxga -r 30 -i :0.0 -f alsa -i default -acodec libmp3lame -sameq /home/holden/Videos/test.mpeg

change the /home/holden to /home/(computername)
also change default to your mic name
I clicked download for linux it just says, "this website is not available"
go into the terminal and type sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
Package ffmpeg is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package 'ffmpeg' has no installation candidate
It seems to have been removed from default repositories.

I've been using Camtasia myself, and it's been working out well for me. The recorder is real easy to use, and the program includes a built-in studio editor as well, so I can record and edit/render the videos with the one program. It wouldn't be my first choice for really professional editing, but you get all of the basic audio/video tools most people would need; video cuts, importing video/audio/pictures, adding text/pictures, transitions, adjusting/leveling audio, etc.
I think I'm running on the old version 7, so I haven't checked out 8 yet, but it's been enough for me over the years, with none of these crazy issues I'm reading about here.
