I've heard that Lightworks is one of the most powerful free video editors out on the interwebz. Unless you haven't already, you should check it out and consider it.
Not sure if already there but maybe a quick tutorial for those who use EZvid, as you can only add commentary and not record voice at the same time, using audacity to record voice at the same time. Then put them together in a video editor.
Hey guys sorry the list hasn't been updated in a while. Don't have Internet as of this post. I will update it once Im back online. Thanks for your continuing to recommend programs and make this list better!

Forbiden1~~~~~~~~ I got new stuff coming soon! We are finally in production!
EzVid: Terrible audio, obnoxious forced music that completely covers my voice.
Camstudio...wouldn't download.
Fraps free trial: 30 second limit...
BANDICAM: a bit of a pain to get setup recording, decent audio, includes a fairly large watermark. Overall the best one I downloaded, will be using this one for awhile.
This is amazingly Helpful, just a few suggestions for some free software(Not sure if they count ):
**NOTE This is Mac only
Quicktime Pro-
It comes free with mac's, pre-installed, and is honestly better than most free programs for mac available
IMovie-
Again, it comes free with mac's, pre-installed, and though seemingly to simple to create more-than-basic edits, can actually do some very interesting stuff.
This is an amazing post. I'm glad you put thetime into making and editing this. It will probably help people who haven't recorded before and wish to post videos. Two thumbs up
Could you update the free video editing software list? All the links seem to be to very outdated software, except for a select few.
I'm looking for a free video editor, and I need features such as effects, transistions and PIP. Are there any free, easy to use software out there to fit that need?

I realize you would like something a little more advanced but remember most advanced features are only available in paid software. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. Many of the software in that particular list is outdated, yes, but most satisfy basic editing needs some go a little bit beyond that. For PIP (Picture in Picture for those curious) if the software has more than 2 videos tracks you could perhaps put both videos on different tracks on top of each other and then resize the video you want on top.
As for editing the list I've looked around but so far the most advanced ones that are free yet have a nice UI and maybe some advanced features are Windows Movie Maker and VideoSpin.
You could also try DVDVideosoft.com and OpenDisc which is a suite of 50 programs. Some of them for video editing. Links for both of these can be found at the Utilities list.
Be sure to quote me if you're replying, otherwise I won't notice.

It pretty much depends on the computer. Why don't you try Fraps?

Yeah the whole CS2 is available for free download. It's a complicated story but completely legal!

But why there's no Windows Movie Maker and YouTube Movie Maker on your video editing software list?
