There's nothing inherently wrong with the built-in quicktime player.
But it makes gigantic files. If I recall correctly, it was 10 GB/hour for recording minecraft.
It does not have pause/resume support, so every recording goes into a different file and requires a restart of the recording. It only records one audio input, but works with soundflower.
It's a good baseline; anything else has to improve on it.

It is probably your computer. I use Apple's built-in QuickTime Player, and edit in iMovie. I am using the most recent version of QuickTime and iMovie (under Yosemite) and am planning on updating to El Capitan (is that how you spell it?) when publicly released. You check RAM, you click on the apple on the upper left hand corner, and then click About This Mac, then click on the Memory pane of that window. There you go!

Mac OS X El Capitan, Mac OS X 10.11, or however you would like to call it, but yes. Not as big a revamp as Mac OS X Yosemite though...

Actually, I haven't managed to record computer sounds and microphone onto separate tracks, for independent volume adjusting -- my voice is never at the right level for the game sounds.

Well, maybe. But, if you want a computer that is easy to use or will always boot up in the morning, that would be Mac. Windows computers just have too much preinstalled bloatware and driver problems. Mac is just simply more reliable. But if you want the constant headaches of Windows, then go ahead. Windows has about, oh I don't know, maybe 90 updates every Tuesday? Mac: maybe two a month or so. I will agree that some things are better on Windows (downgrading) than on Mac though.
Don't get me started on Windows 8 though. I have a lot of opinions about that.

I completely agree with the Windows part (I had to reinstall Windows 8 about three times to get it to work on my family's PC), and that is why I use Linux (Ubuntu 14.0.4.2 to be exact) - it's free and all you need is a flash drive/DVD reader

Okay, I have nothing against Linux. Mac OS was actually based on Linux a really long time ago. But most computers come with Windows 8 and I could make an essay on why Windows 8 is terrible. At least you can format the hard drive and install Linux on it. The problem though is that when you buy a Windows PC, about maybe 30% is the cost of Windows 8/8.1 Pro, which some people would just delete anyway.
I have this really awesome. Simeple. Free. No lag screen recorder.
Its called Screeny. Go into your app store on your mac and search screeny. It should be a square of purple film with a mouse cursor in the middle of it. Check out my YouTube to see how great it is.
For me I cant find one that works like how their described. Only thing thats worked for me is Screen cast o matic and its horrible. I have 4GB but my mac is 10.6.8 and its horrendous to update. http://www.youtube.com/jtcjalen
I use the Quicktime Screen Recorder that comes with the mac, and I have no lag problems.
Yes QuickTime is always been the first choice in recording screen on Mac. But its function is limited to screen recording. In this case, you can use other alternative screen recorders for Mac. Some of these include ScreenFlow($99), Snagit ($49.95), or Free Online Screen Recorder(Free). And to avoid any lags, try to upgrade your RAM.

I use Quick-Time and iMovie, but have trouble recording both Microphone and in game sound?

OBS performs reasonably well.
It cannot seem to record sharp text.
There seems to always be some bit of blury-ness in the recording.
