This is going to be a turorial in how to record Minecraft. Literally.
If you have advice for meh, just post below, and I *might* make a spoiler for it. Alzorath is great for advice, so see below!
If you want FREE:
If you want to record for free, I have no idea what to get, 'cuz i think they all suck, and there is no literal FREE ones with NO watermark or limitations!
If you want to PAY:
High performance pc: DXTORY
Low performance pc: FRAPS (it works good for laptops)
I use FRAPS, its great!
"LAG" issues:its actually called "I-don't-have-a-good-enough-pc-to-record" issues.
MAKE YOUR WINDOW SMALL
Don't maximise the game whenever you record. SERIOUSLY. It may not be easy to play with, but it could be the difference of you becoming the second SkyDoesMinecraft or not. Try it!
ONLY RUN MINECRAFT AND X RECORDING PROGRAM
Free up processing power. I MEAN IT! recording a game is like running two of them at once, but doing the exact same thing in each of them, with one invisible, and the other being controlled by YOU, as well as having to write all that to your hard drive, it needs a good, well-built, high performance pc
Great advice provided by Alzorath!
DxTory works for pc's across the spectrum (low to high end), since it's very customizable.
Bandicam is similar in that regard (though I generally only recommend it for low-mid)
FRAPs is Mid-high, and requires a lot of drive space, but usually provides a result with high quality video (you -can- get higher quality with DxTory, I don't know for certain about with Bandicam though)
And generally speaking... in any PC made in the last about 4 years, it's not that the PC is weak/strong, it's the choice of components - there are certain mid-level components which are great for running games, but terrible for recording, due to the nature of how they function - there are actually 'dirt cheap' or even 'poor' components that outstrip these pieces of hardware just because of the way they handle (APU systems being a HUGE example of this situation - as well as a number of 'mobile' solutions - laptops requiring a LOT of research to make sure you're getting one capable of sustained quality recording).
Newer laptops are better about it, but a LOT of laptops still can't handle it due to a mix of slower harddrives to save power or the use of APU systems. Chances are you just got lucky... or got a desktop replacement unit (more power hungry, less popular, and usually a bit more expensive than a basic laptop)Different softwares tax different parts of your PC...
FRAPs taxes the harddrive very heavy, but is a bit more friendly elsewhere (less processing, more 'load all the data and worry about it later' philosophy),
DxTory is extremely flexible letting you choose between various philosophies of recording (you can go from 'heavily processed before saving' which taxes your processor and in some cases gpu, to almost quite literally 'no processing' massive files). Bandicam is like a simplified version of DxTory (though DxTory came out AFTER bandicam).
DxTory and Bandicam shine best when you introduce custom Codecs (Lagarith Lossless being sort of the 'standard' balanced one). As they introduce more casual friendly resource eating .
- Some intel HD graphics (integrated graphics) aren't terrible, not ideal either though (the trick is to avoid things like the AMD APUs, where the graphics card and processor share resources).
- Is the processor multicore or singlecore? (Multicore helps a ton in recording)
- I used to record on a system with only 2GB ram, and it worked good until my system started dying lol
POSTING YOUR PROBLEM TEMPLATE:
Problem: (Please be specific)
Your specs: (CPU,GPU,HDD, write speeds, what quality you want)
WE NEED DETAILS!! (idk what else to suggest)
THANKS!!!
oh and huge thank you to Alzorath for the above info!
A good free recorder would be OBS Studio, it works well for me and on youtube my videos come out 1080p!! =D
*Sigh*
Does no one look at the previous post dates?
Thanks anyway.
