Well I've been thinking about starting a Minecraft Youtube series lately, and I've been thinking about what would be original, what would get a lot of views, etc etc. I finally came up with a few good ideas, but now I only have one problem; I need a good, cheap, game/audio recording program that has reliable FPS and has average video quality. I've tried fraps, but the FPS always gets slowed down when I use full-screen mode and the video quality isn't that great either.
So I've been wondering... What do the professional Minecraft "Let's Play-ers" use? You know them; the Yogscast, SeaNanners, CaptainSparklez... Their videos have good quality. So please, I must figure out what program they use!
Sheez... You guys need to realize Fraps is outdated. The only thing good enough for recording gameplay without lowering your frames like fraps does is Playclaw.

New version of fraps only drops my frames by 3 at this point, and I am talking about recording stuff like Oblivion, Fallout, ect.
Just use fraps. There's no professional **** out there that doesn't cost a bajillion dollars.. or that you won't pay. Fraps even costs money, although you can use keygens or whatever the hell kids call them these days.
I wish fraps worked for mac... there's nothing really good to do screencasts with a mac :/ I know, I know, getapc, etc
I just use IShowUHD. It kinda sucks though, the recording comes out darker and more saturated, which when added to YouTube's quality rape is just awful. And it makes my game lag horribly if I record in HD
Yes and no. Hypercam 2 can make decent quality videos on lower end computers, but Fraps can make extremely high-quality videos on decent computers. Plus Hypercam 2 is free, and you cant beat free :tongue.gif:
CamStudio is pretty good, and unlike Fraps (and Hypercam), it's truly freeware. To get the most out of it however, you need to also get the CamStudio Lossless Codec, which although will make your video filesize a lot bigger and isn't compatible with all video editors (last time I tried, MovieMaker was okay with it, but you should doublecheck with your editing program and a test video), CamCodec has almost Fraps-level quality depending on your system. Compare to the default "Microsoft Video 1", which looks like 56k Creeper poop.
One major thing about any recording program (CamStudio, Fraps, or otherwise) is that if you have a second physical hard drive (not a logical partitioning, and not an external drive, USB isn't fast enough for this iirc), you should record to it, instead of to the drive that the game is installed on. It all has to do with HDD bandwidth. While most systems use SATA, which is a lot faster than old IDE, there's still a limited amount. If one hard drive has to simultaniously write video data and read/write chunk data (or data for any other game), both data streams will suffer, and your in-game and in-video framerate will suck. There's really nothing you can do if you play on a laptop, but if you've got a desktop with more than one drive, record to the one that Minecraft isn't on. Source Demo Converter doesn't have this problem because the .dem-to-.avi conversion doesn't need to be real-time; a screen capture program does.

When did Hypercam 2 stop being free? Infact I just reinstalled it and it is still Freeware.

I believe it's "Crippleware" because you have to pay to get rid of the logo at the top left? Either way, CamStudio is better because it's fully open-source.
Anyways, I use CamStudio and Wacko is right on. Works great, though there's a nasty bug with video files > 2Gb.

I beg to differ. I use Camtasia and I prefer it over Fraps.
quoted for the truth.....and his name.

SSoHPKC, paulsoresjr, MinecraftWB, Ramza411sb, ect. are all professionals. Next time, dont act like you're the smartest when you're wrong.
OnTopic: Fraps, Camtasia, Hypercam 2, ect. I know Hypercam 2 is free, I know Fraps isnt, I dont know about Camtasia though, as I haven't used it.
