I need a program that will record FULLSCREEN Minecraft. If I run it windowed, my framerate drops considerably. Does anyone know what recording software Tobuscus uses to record his minecraft game? I also need something to record other fullscreen games as well since this weekend I was gonna make a reaction video of my first time playing Slender. I need fullscreen to make the experience feel more "complete". Someone help me PLEASE?!
You FPS is not supposed to be lower when running in windowed mode. Anyways, most people use Fraps to record games. Great quality (although very high file size). It does cost a small amount but it's worth it.
Speaking of Fraps, how do you change compression settings? I always get these really weird effects in dark areas of MC while recording, and disk space isn't a problem.

My understanding is that fraps doesn't manage compression at all and you require a third party software to do so, unless they've changed it within the last couple of years
I think Toboscus uses Fraps. He probably has a really good gaming PC or something.
Fraps has always lagged for me (and makes very large video files) so I don't like it that much. I highly recommend either Bandicam or Dxtory. Try both of them out, play around with the settings and codec, and see which one works best.

I don't feel like putting anything witty here, sorry.
Fraps but fraps takes up hella lot of power to record if it's full screen. take note of that. . And then compress it with VirtualDub or some other 3rd party software.

Is there something wrong with my computer then? And also, do I have to buy Fraps if I want to record fullscreen games? I tried a trial version of it once and it didn't work. I'm thinking it's trial version restriction. I think I'm getting the Movavi Video Suite soon too. Do you think that will work with the fullscreen game if I get the full version?

I also don't have a lot of space on my machine currently (don't tell me to delete things because I've done it already)
I used to use Camtasia Recorder, but the video files took WAY too long to save to disk afterwards (20-25 mins x2) so I started using Fraps. Lower quality, but instant recording.

Yeah, a bunch of this depends on your computers specs. If you have less then 4gb of ram, fraps probably isn't for you, you will probably want a more "light weight" recorder.
Fraps is not the best recording software. It's one of the worst. Bandicam and PlayClaw 3 are immensely better. Some people say DxTory is but I disagree.
I'm also having an issue with low frames when I record minecraft. There is some issue with Minecraft or Java. I record Battlefield 3 and lose 1-2 fps I record Minecraft and lost about 275fps with Bandicam and PlayClaw 3

Most games eat up your GPU and RAM... Minecraft eats up your CPU too (which is why it tanks on a lot of the systems that use AMD's "APU" technology for built in video cards) - You might try using the "Magic Launcher" tool for minecraft... helps limit the ram sucking by the game... though yea... it's a bit rough to know what will fix your problem without knowing the environment (system specs, other apps, mods, etc.)
Fraps is no doubt the most preferred recording software to any popular gamplay youtuber. Fraps has no equal that can provide the same high quality for less PC requirements. In fact, Fraps requires so much advanced hardware that those who don't possess adequate software to run it prefer lower end recording software. Dxtory and Bandicam sacrifice quality for less hardware requirements.

TO ACTUALLY ANSWER YOUR QUESTION IF ON A PC PRESS CTRL+ALT+TAB RESELECT THE WINDOW OF MINECRAFT TILL THE OUTLINE OF THE OVERLAY TURNS RED THEN YOU CAN RECORD

That defies the laws of the universe.
Anyway, fraps is one of the best.
Just because a persons videos are popular doesn't mean he uses the best possible applications to record them.
If fraps doesn't work for you, nothing will, thats just how it is.
