Well, I decided to start a new world today. I'm using the new launcher to play with the snapshots for the first time ever, because I hate being behind the times. There will be no mods in this new world at all - it's pure vanilla. But I will be keeping up with the snapshots as long as the new launcher is stable, and maybe I'll do the work to keep the snapshots updated even if it isn't.
I'm also thinking of beginning a Let's Play relatively soon. I don't have the equipment for it quite yet, but it's something I've been looking into. Whether I actually do it or not, I'm not sure yet, I have a short attention span and tend to take 2-3 week-long breaks from Minecraft periodically. But it seems like it would be fun, and I don't really care if I get too many subscribers to it. But I'm not going to worry about that yet.
I'll try my best to keep this updated. Also, one of the big reasons that I'm doing this topic is in the hopes that I'll get some input on what to build, I want to become bigger and better at all aspects of the game. So don't be afraid to recommend things you would like to see!
Well, time to get started, and I hope you guys enjoy!

First night on the new world. Random seed, no cheats. Unfortunately I didn't think to take screenshots for the first 15 minutes or so, so I didn't take a picture of the exact spawn, and I missed screens my first cave discovery and subsequent first death. Oh well, I'll make up for it.
Spawned on the edge of an ocean and plains. TONS of horses right next to spawn! Amazing!
I almost always build in extreme hills from the start, but there aren't any close by and I figured I should try something different this time anyway, so I'll be building in these plains. There's a forest and a swamp nearby, and I seem to be on the edge of a huge ocean which is a bit of a bummer, but certainly not a dealbreaker.
I found an overhang and built under it for the time being however. Welcome to my humble abode!
Time to go caving...my full inventory on the 2nd night.
here's the first cave I discovered (dug a staircase down from my house) and right where I first died when I got pinned between a skeleton and a creeper.
I'm playing on Hard for the first time ever! I figured it was time to make the upgrade. Just have to remember not to build too many wood doors...
Abandoned mineshaft! Well...I suppose I could take a peak...
I don't feel comfortable going too deep into the mineshaft yet, but I'll take a peak at the surrounding caves.
My first gold:
Burn you undead *******!
Well, this is a huge cave that seems to branch off in every direction. Didn't find any diamond, but did find 2 stacks of iron, a bit of gold, and plenty of coal for my immediate needs.
Heading back upstairs, it's night time and I'm not ready to stop fighting yet! I'm all decked out now.
This new zombie spawning thing is terrifying. This guy just appeared right before my eyes!
Night's over, didn't die, and I'm level 23 already! Haven't found any sheep, but I do have enough string to make a bed.
Running low on food though...gotta set up a wheat farm for now.
This will be better in the long run though.
Don't have any slimeballs for leads yet, so I'll have to lead them the old-fashioned way.
It's ghetto, but it'll have to do for now.
Did a little more work around the "house" (hey give me a break, I haven't had a lot of time yet ).
And with that, it's time to head to bed. I want to keep playing, but it's 3am and I really should get to sleep.
Plans for next time: Explore a bit, find sugarcane and hopefully some more animals and check out the surrounding terrain, light up a little more of the cave and maybe peak further into the mineshaft, begin work on a proper house, and most importantly of all, tame some horses! (Of course, I need to find a saddle to make use of them.)
Good night!

Back in action, and ready to do a bit of daytime exploring to see what's around.
Better build a marker in case I lose my way...
Hmmm, ocean this way.
Uh oh, ocean this way too. I better not be on a big island!
Ok, this looks promising. Found some jungle and land a bit further, but I'm not equipped for a night time adventure so I must return to base.
Cut it a little close, but I made it back safely and fully intact! Now that it's night time, I should do some caving. I need more resources before I can do much of anything else anyway.
This definitely isn't the safest job in the world!
Oooh, a spawner?
Nope...just looped back around on an already-explored cave.
And again...
And again...
These caves just keep looping back on themselves!
Reached level 30! Unfortunately I have yet to find any diamond to utilize these levels...
Next time I'll have to finally brave the abandoned mineshaft, but I should preserve what I've got and get some more food. I'll have to resume my diamond hunt tomorrow.
Inventory check! This is what I have so far (+whatever coal is in my furnaces)
My farms are coming along slowly but surely:
Hey, you don't belong in there!
Time to get started on a proper house, or at least a shanty. This looks like a good area.
And after some wood-chopping, I'm ready to go! This is a modest start, but I like the design a lot, and it gives me a nice starting point for my base.
That's all I've got for today, I can't wait to see what this world brings me!
And don't worry, I'll get to you eventually, horses. I've got some pressing matters to deal with before I can tame you guys.
Been a bit busy this weekend, but I'll surely have a lot more free time this week.

I apologize that I have not kept this updated, but unfortunately I seem to have ruined this world. I made the mistake of accidentally loading it in 1.5 and when I re-logged in with the snapshots, all of the horses had disappeared. The world itself is still fine, but none of the horses are there anymore, and considering that was the main reason I wanted to start a new world, I got pretty discouraged and gave up on it.
However, I may decide to find the seed for the world and re-start, and hopefully the spawning for horses hasn't changed with any of the recent snapshots. No promises though.
