Here's my latest ship. The pirate vessel Chimera. I'll have her in the OP with some lore before too long. I built her on a whim and want to present her to you guys before she goes in the OP.
These are amazing, asikar! The first ship for sheer power and size, the second I like the design and the position of the various elements and I can more easily grasp it's scale. The lighting in these latest pics is really making the ships seem real, especially the Chimera, but what are you using to get that effect?
I like the hull shape on the big one, but I can't help feeling that the yellow balloons (I think) don't really fit. I'd go for bigger balloons that look like they could actually lift the ship.
The nation that my ships are based out of always paints their balloons yellow on the newer model ships. (I just think it makes a nice contrast) As far as the number of balloons goes, I explain the lack of feasible lifting power by saying that they are filled with a gas that has more lift than either helium or hydrogen. (It's steampunk just go with it)
It certainly doesn't need to be totally accurate. I was just thinking that a balloon/shipbsize ratio similar to your smaller ships (like the chimaera) might look nicer.
Haha, it's been around as long as my pack and I've never seen it! Seen plenty of rendered Minecraft pics and assumed they all knew how to use Blender or some other rendering engine. Thanks, mate! I'll give it a whirl sometime and see what damage I can do.
That's come as close as anything to persuading me to install forge...amazing!
Now why hasn't Mojang introduced something like that into Minecraft long ago? Chests, beds, torches and still editable after launch and totally made out of blocks instead of a fixed entity...which in my way of thinking is more in the spirit of Minecraft.
The mod works great. However thee ship size is limited to 2080 (or so) blocks. It runs very smooth to say the least. I'm expecting good things for the future of the Archimedes ships mod.

I found the smooth movement was a great feature in the videos. I haven't tried it out for myself yet (next update rather swamping me again).
I know the 2080 block limit won't let you fly your gigantic ships, but it should be more than perfect for making a rather grand royal barge or repair tug, so that you can glide around in style surveying your fleet.
I definitely need to make some time to set up a profile just for the Archimedes mod. The prospect of building up a collection of ships (on both air and sea), then being able to park them where ever takes your fancy, greatly appeals.
So, I got to thinking the other day. What would you guys think if a doubled the size of the Icarus? Not just making it 2x larger to scale, but by making another deck plate and another lower hull right next to the existing one, making it twice as wide. I'll have a render of the proposed changes soon so you guys can see.
But Blakmajik had the advantage of modding in 1.2.5, without the integrated server, which allows for much smoother features. Once 1.3 was launched and the new server-client system was introduced, he quickly gave up, because he knew he could never make his mod in 1.3 like it was in 1.2.
Congrats on your most excellent mod, Balkon.
I had a chance to play with it last night and it was as good as it appeared in the videos. The only mod outside of FTB that I've tried in nearly two years! I'm looking forward to seeing what things asikar makes to fly with it.

Glad to see you're still adding to the fleet.
The program i use is called Chunky. It is a free minecraft rendering program. available here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/63913-chunky-minecraft-mapping-and-rendering-tool/.
As for the Scale of my heavy carrier, each pontoon is two of my light carriers back to back. So 4 light carriers in total.

EDIT:
The chimera is up in the OP.

I thought that i would build my own instead of modeling it on something else.

Maybe detail the main balloon more?
That's what's next on the agenda. As i said, i just threw it together to see how she looked.
