Oh, good. You've started reading Mortal Engines.
But exactly what are these new ships? They just look like pre-1950 ships not in water...
I think you should try doing a traction city.

Salutations, my fellow ship builders and captains alike. I have been working earnestly on my carrier and i have an update for you all. I have finished the bridge, engine pods, and I have started to load the deck with monoplanes and dirigibles alike. here is a taste of the ship, now named the HMS Harbinger.
I have considered moving the bridge to the front of the hull and
putting two conning towers on the deck for flight control and
communications. this will allow more space on the deck for
monoplanes.
Greetings fellow airship captains, I have another update for you. I moved the bridge to the front, added the towers, and another plane on the deck. Here is a more complete taste of the HMS Harbinger.
here is a closer look inside the communications tower
All the planes i could fit without hitting the towers
Thank you very much Glimmar, it is a pleasure building these. Your pack makes my ships much much better. It was honestly a surprise to see your name on my humble thread. These ships are my pride and joy of minecraft. After my carrier i will begin work on the Icarus, a flying city based on Airhaven from Philip Reeve's Predator Cities quartet. No worries though, we wont melt our "waxen wings" as the myth goes.
Thank you, it took me about 2.5 hours to get the curves right for each ship. Making curves out of squares never seems to work the first time.

Icarus? Interesting name. Will it be slung by balloons? I always liked that idea. Mortal Engines is a wealth of inspiration for those who want good steampunk ideas. I'm glad you liked the series.
One of my sailing frigates is called the HMS Harbinger.
Looking great, it'd be interesting and believable if that ship yer're buildin' could go in water as well. It looks very much like a sea and sky ship.

I was thinking that it would be a good idea since integrated gasbags would take up too much space. Also greate idea of having them also seaworthy and not just airworthy, imagine the surprise when one of these lifts out of the water durring ship to ship combat. XD
I thought that harbinger would be a fitting name for a carrier.
If you mean the mooring mast that is on an older world, using blocks from the better than wolves mod, and is not available for download. I do however plan to rebuild my dreadnought class ships in my new world.
Salutations, fellow airship captains and shipwrights alike. I have finally completed the HMS Harbinger. She is a full ten blocks longer than the undaunted at 121 blocks long, she is 36 blocks tall from her keel to the top of the radio antenna, and she is 32 blocks wide at the widest. She was based on the Japanese carrier Kaga in WW II and was designed to be more sleek and aerodynamic than the Undaunted. As carrier support is key to any naval battle, whether air or sea. She has 14 total AA guns to keep away pesky fighters an enemy carrier might have. she also has 2 fixed ship-to-ship cannons at the base of the communications and flight control towers. The AA guns can also be fired ship to ship, however, they would not do nearly as much damage. She carries up to seven monoplane fighters and two bi-plane bombers each with a payload of 6 TNT blocks.
Anyway, enough of my rambling, enjoy the HMS Harbinger in all her glory. As always feedback and comments are most appreciated.
Now for the grand tour, starting with the outside:
The whole reason i put the bridge in the front below the deck is that i wanted her to have a symmetric design and keep her buoyancy in the air. That is also the reason for two towers and
not one offset one.
Here is the cargo bay door. the only reason the buttons are so far away from the door is that the redstone wiring to open/close it are in the way.
inside the cargo bay with lots of storage space. remember that
door by the way.
up the stares to the crew's quarters.
first the captain'c cabin
then the normal crew
now for the officer's quarters
each officer has an assigned chest to stow all his effects. the crew only get the drawers in their beds.
up the stairs from the crew's quarters and we arrive here. just a junction for the hallways and access to the bridge.
speaking of the bridge
and you get a view of the navigator's station in the back
remember those odd little doors along the port and starboard halls?
they lead to the AA guns. here is inside one o the guns.
going further along the hall we get to the engineering room
here is the elevator to take planes up to the deck. as you saw the seventh plane is undergoing an overhaul.
here is one of the ship-to-ship guns, they are exactly the same as the ones on the Undaunted.
here are the ladders to get to the pilot ready rooms in each tower.
and the ready room itself. in the chest are flight suits.
continuing up the ladder we arrive at communications. The flight control tower is much the same only the roof is more glass than metal.
now continuing down the ship we arrive at the mess
now for the armory. i redid the undaunted's armory in much the same way.
now on the the aft section which contains the observation deck and the engine room
what a beautiful, moonset if i do say so myself
here is the "ballast tank" where the lifting gas is stored. to go up one would add gas to the gasbags and to go down you would pump gas out.
now to go back up to the front of the ship via the catwalks amoung the gasbags.
remember that door
and back to storage
and thus ends the tour of the HMS Harbinger. hope you enjoyed. again, comments and feedback are always welcome. be sure to download the map for a better look at the HMS Harbinger. there is also a surprise waiting underground next to the shipyard elevator.
The op will be updated to include the HMS Harbinger and the refitted parts of the Undaunted within the next few days. for now, my weariness has gotten the better of me. signing off, captain asikar.

Awesome work!
Really enjoyed the guided tour and the attention to detail, it made it feel like a real walk around a working ship. Hope you have some sampled engine sounds, thrumming in the background, along with a bunch of creaks and clanks.
It also made me think I should make a set of 'airship specific' villagers sometime (I'll make a note of that). As you're more of an expert in this area, if you have any ideas of the sort of uniforms you'd like to see bustling about one of your ships, drop me some pics as reference...or not, if you think it's a daft idea!
How many hours total from start to finish did it take, and what's the next project?
Nice ships, but i'm more of a steampunk fan myself when it comes to flying machines.

these new ships are based on the "Leviathans" concepts.

I think I'll start with a traction town first, after i finish my carrier of course.

Is the Aircraft carrier almost done?
http://i.imgur.com/orRIkrY.png
Yes, i have the outside done and am working on the inside. shouldn't take much longer.

I'll certainly be watching out, sir. Very much looking forward to seeing it's maiden flight.
