My second topic on these forums, And I hope not the last.
I started working on a city a few weeks back, inspired slightly by victorian architecture, but wanting to give it my own spin in a way. So far I have what would be called a port town. Here are some pics. Suggestions are welcomed, and I neeed new buildings/ inspiration to build!
General overview of the town:
The port and warehouses:
The Residential district with upper class and lower class houses.
The tree of wisdom, where townsfolk go to seek answers to questions and receive visions.
The walls of the houses are stone bricks lined with wood, and the roofs are made of brick. I thought it would give it a rustic feel but still keep it pretty unique.
I would make a glowstone lamp with fence post like in strongholds. And my susgestion is to make a 50 block by 30 block stone brick castle with 4 stories high with four blocks of air between them for a total area of 50 W X 30 L X 20 H (5 blocks per story. Mine is similar but I have only built two stories so far. Like this building:

Inside
It looks good so far, but all of your buildings seem to be made of all the same materials in the same style. Maybe switch it up and use some other blocks.
On a side-note, I really like how you did the cathedral. Looks nice
its nice, and whilst people are saying u need to use more block types, i dont see why its a town,.. they tend to have moslty the same style buildings... or if u realy want to change them split it up into a few districts... also i feel like for a town there should be erm just more of it..also maybe make your port a little more substantial or add another small one with a dock and some boats out in the sea would be nice.
I took what everyone here said into consideration and developed some more ideas.
I agree that the port area was far too small for such a large town, so I expanded it and made the town more prominent! I also built by the waterfall a bit, which I hope to extend, and I am happy with what I've done so far.
The first major update- A small castle!

The Inn- the Briney brew!
A small dock for ships to deposit and pick up cargo. This is the first main stream of trade the town has!
The smithy, silhouetted by the inn and factories
And last, but not least, The first small cargo ship of Andus, the Sealord!
And thus, I leave you dear listeners with a final overview of the current port!
----------------------------
Soooo that was my update....
I have a few questions.
Anyone have any more suggestions? I will continue to expand, but as always I would like creative ideas and constructive criticism and feedback.
And also, could anyone with any skill at image photoshopping make some kind of nice image for the Town? I would be most grateful
Wow. This town does look quite nice indeed! I like the style you went for. Bs the out ather peope say, you maybe need to change it up a bit. And when it's fully done, might want to put up a download. I would love to check it out for myself!
Thanks Detoxiic! Currently working on another update. Thanks for the advice on the download and the compliment. The town probably will not have a download for a while, as it is still in the process of budding.
Lords and ladies, I present to you, The farming district!
The main foodstuffs from this district are canes, wheat, melons and pumpkins, although pumpkin is in short supply.
The farmer's guild:
The farm docks:
A new tavern and houses:
(the tavern is called the foam of the sea)
Aaaannndd last but not least a foggy town overview
------------------
Once again I'll ask, can anyone make some sort of shopped picture as a showy pic of some part of the city? I would be grateful. Also this part of the city took around 2 hours. The tavern and houses took around a half hour, and the guild hall took like 20 minutes. I guess I build pretty fast...
eh im not very good.... and i didnt know the size you wanted it to be..or the type's coulor but, if u could get a image you like at dawn/day i could do something like this with it.. just ask XD
Lovely, it is what it is. But also, might I suggest adding eaves to the roofs on your houses? Otherwise, there is nothing to prevent rainwater from running all the way down the side of the houses. (Think about how your house's roof hangs off the side and then has a rain gutter.)

Any suggestions anyone?

That was what I was thinking, though I am adding a few buildings with a little variety. Update coming in less than an hour hopefully!

To jackblg, I like that pic. I think I'll use it as a banner for now.
To Mrs_Jillian, thanks for the compliment, and the suggestion. I'll implement that in my new district, coming up soon, the factory district!
To HinataStar, thanks for the compliment. I like the simplicity of the farming district too!
