A film of ~3 minutes should be 28 MB rather than 28GB. I've found that recording programs often take up huge space for the raw videos, and using a video editor can save you massive amounts of space. I once made a video using Camstudio (too poor to pay for Fraps, and too lazy to pirate), which works fine if you use the right codec (standard codec is awful). The total takes of the video (~6) took up around 4 GB on my harddisk. I loaded them all in Windows movie maker, pasted them together, saved it as a movie file with a not-so-incredibly-high resolution (enough for youtube on 480p) and Bam! Only 10 MB of video.
!##@&$^%$^!!! Cancelled the upload. Been stuck at 24% for the last 15 hours. Swervish is going to have to fall back and re-evaluate this 'posting videos' thing. Likely have some learning to do on editing / HD-vs-720dpi / soundtrack / file compression / blah blah blah..... CRAP, Im going to end up failing to maintain my 40something digital ignorance if Im not careful. While Im doing that, Im just going to rar-file the .avi and stick it on gamefront (if it will fit). 2:52 to archive, then up;load time to GF.... Ill post the link here asap (if it doesnt &@(% itself up too)....grrrrrr
An average HD-film is roughly 3-5 GB per 2-3 hours of watching, so 28 GB is way more than necessary. Did you edit the raw video Fraps recorded, then load into some program or other (Windows Movie Maker works fine), and save using a specific compression/codec? If you have, you should probably play a bit with the options the program (likely) offers. 28 GB is way too big, and I believe Youtube put a limit on file size/file length (not sure though)
Need a break from the building and the video kerfuffle....
So planning (which I enjoy almost as much as building)
Durham Cathedral is back on the menu (probably the next structure) because I had an epiphany as to a solution to the hieght limit... Im just going to leave off the top of the tower. I think it will look just fine.
Cut off tower
The main tower is , in my opinion, the least visually attractive part of this particular cathedral anyway (many peer cathedrals have beautiful Main towers, but not Durham), so cutting off the ugliest part (the top) is not really a big loss anyway. And I REALLY want to build the castle & cathedral structures of this vast Renaissance complex. FYI, even though the castle and the cathedral sit near each other, there are few picture with both structures included.
Both structures:
So here are some pictures of the cathedral that I edited in paint to show what I intend to do to the main tower:

So, Planning is well underway for Durham Castle & Cathedral:
Here are the basic footprints of the two structures (with the east stained glass window diagrammed out)
THAT'S the easy part, and the footprint will UNDOUBTEDLY have to be ammended / changed / edited as the elevations are drawn, so that the whole thing fits together.
I dont really know if you guys care, but if your interested, here is how I turn web-based info/research into these paint plans:
First I do my best to gather raw dimensions through two methods:
1) I use google earth to get lateral (footprint) measurements
I use those to lay out the basic footprint (seen above), then I cut the footprint elements apart and use googled images / data / architectural drawings / what-ever-is-available as reference to design the 'sides' of the buildings: the toughest part is adjusting the pics / plans to exact scale for the paint doc so that I can measure correctly. That part is mostly art, not science
So here are the dimensions:
Googled interior elevation of the Durham Cathedral Nave:
So I combine the two like this: I know from the dimensions doc, that the high vault (the nave) is 72 ft 9 in tall. The choir and the alters are 77' and 71'6" tall respectively. So, for a MC build, I simplify, and ALL the high vaults of the "cross" shape of the structure will be 75 feet tall.
Therefore I simply need re-size the cross section picture so that when it lays on the paint doc, there are exact 75 grid squares under the vault(see the 75 grid tall purple column).
That makes all the rest of the drawing 'to scale' so that I can lay out the plan accordingly. I only need one elevation drawing to create a benchmark portion of the structure. From there I can use the other exterior photos to extrapolate proportions for the rest of the structure.
Notice the two orange rectangle over to the right in the above pic. The yellow "T" references the 192 block limit above sea level where the 256 block MC height limit exists. The farthest right orange rectangle is that actual height (from published data) and width (from Google earth ruler) of the main tower. The one on the left represents the limit under which I will have to design this tower. I have left myself a two block buffer under the sky-limit.
That's where I am right now. I dont feel like building in the Heptarchy today, So I will probably be planning in paint for a half dozen hours while we watch some NFL, and she does whatever she does on pinterest and ebay. Hope to get the main tower completely designed.

Yeah, I recorded full screen 1080dpi 22:45 min, .avi w stereo 'windows-sound' playing out of itunes
something doesnt jive here and I have a feeling its the stereo iTunes audio...
Hey, dont sweat it joe. You didnt frustrate me at all. Nobody here did.
My own digital inexperience is what frustrated me. But Im also stubborn.... good money says, I'll probably come back to it eventually... I mean, I spent $37 of the full fraps software. I'll give that little investment another chance at some point, Im sure.
Well my computer can barely even record with a stable 5-10fps xP And you've tried it with all of that....
Btw, looked at my notifications thismorning and $#%!#@!! A lot of notifications... xD
I see you've decided to go for another mega build type structure haha. Well, best of luck. Can't wait to see how you do this. Awesome awesome job on decorating Bodiam.

"Programmers never repeat themselves. They loop."
No wonder its taking so long
its not 28Mgb..... its 28Gbts
"Programmers never repeat themselves. They loop."
I tried to, but it jacked up the audio completely. Thats my stubborn attitude though.... do it right or not at all, I guess.
I actually need to learn how to do it myself. What's the progress so far?

Yep. Its more like 25 minutes, and Im sure i have all the settings way too high.

So if you manage to get a video up, that'd amaze me to be frank as I wouldn't even know where to start. :s

So, ya know what?
Im done with video.
Forget it.
Forget that I even tried this fraps / videodub / youtube fiasco.
Im done with it.
Just gonna have to be content with screenshots...... or you guys can download the .jars when I link them and make your own videos.
Peace
Thanks for giving it a try for all us strangers on the internet.
